Jack Mulhall and Claude Gillingwater -are the principal stars in the supporting cast. "Dulcy" is the type of person of: whom it has been frequently said, "everytime she opens her mouth she put her foot into it." Connie does her part wonderfully - well. At times you are constrained to. spank her scundly and, again, you want to hug her, she is that delightfully 'dumb, Better see it! Buster Keaton, Connie's broth- er-in-law, helps her put over the enter- tainment with his "Love Nest." Frank Lucas, accordianist, is on the program. It is called "a sensation of love and intrigue on the high seas." Uncle Sam's mighty navy is shown in maneuvers in this picture. Elaine Hammerstein, in "Broadway Gold," will be shown at the Adelphi on Friday and Saturday, October 12 and 13. The New Evans:on J Owing to the overwhelming suc- tess: of "Safety Last," the Harold Lloyd comedy drama now showing exclusively at the New Evanston, the management has determined to ex- tend the engagement of the picture for another week beginning Monday, October 8. The second week of "Safety Last" is by popular demand. The theater has been unable to accomodate half the crowds' which have been seeking en- trance at every showing. "Safety Last" will show throughout the week of October 8 MAETERLINCK DRAMA PACKS THE HARRIS "Monna Vanna" the stupendous Wil- liam Fox film version of the drama by Maurice Maeterlinck, will enter its sec- ond and last week at the Harris theatre Sunday after attracting attention such as seldom is given to a film entertainment. But for the fact that a dramatic at- traction has been booked into the theatre for some time, it is probable the screen- ing of this romance of the Italian renais- sance would continue at the Dearborn street theatre for many weeks, so great has been the response of the public to the charm of Maeterlinck's story and the massive, yet tender production given it by Director Richard Eichberg. Gasps of admiration greeted the huge mob scenes with which the director brought out the warfare between the rival cities of Pisa and Florence, in which literal armies of men were thrown against each other about the gates of the city. Much attention, too, was attracted by the spectacular lighting effects by which the director indicated the night battle scenes. Lee Parry, in the title role, discloses a worthy successor, on the screen, to Georgette "Leblanc, wife of the author, who created the title role on the stage, and. to Mary Garden, who scored a triumph 'in; the title role on the operatic stage. (1 "DOES IT PAY? COMES TO MONROE The Monroe theatre has booked "Does It Pay?" for the week commencing Mon- day, October 8. This Fox special pro- duction deals with a phase of life which touches close to the dangers besetting the home: The plans of a designing young women to take the place of the faithful wife of an elderly millionaire are laid bare and the consequences of a man's folly are revealed with compelling truthfulness. The author of the story is Beatrice Dovskie and the direction was in charge of Charles Horan. Many of the scenes take place in unusually handsome inter- iors, of which those placed in the home of the millionaire husband are most lav- ish. At the lead of the cast of skilled play- ers is Hope Hampton. In the character of the fascinating, but unprincipled, second wife of the millionaire, she is given an opportunity to do some of the strongest acting of her career. Robert T. Haines has the leading male role, Many motorists use soap and water to clean mica windows, but if they will try cleaning them with vinegar and then washing them off with clean, cold water, they will have a better vision. The Palmer uniform traffic code designates state highway trunk lines as right of way routes. The ruling applies in cities as well as in the country, the attorney gen- eral held. In many Michigan cities through traf- fic streets have been designated by local ordinance. The new law apparently con- flicts with the local ordinances in cases where trunk line routes intersect with thoroughfares, the attorney general has held, but there is small likelihood that the issue will ever be raised. Local peace officers should see to it, however, the attorney general has decided, that vehicles on trunk line routes through the city, as well as those on designated through traffic streets have right of way.
