WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1923 CLUB HEARS OF CIVIC AFFAIRS President Miller ail Mana- ger Woolhiser Talk to Indian Hill Body WANT BETTER LIGHTS Illumination at Stations Is New Problem Monday, November 5,° was New- comers' Night at the regular monthly meeting of the Indian Hill Improve- ment association, Regular business was to a large ex- tent set aside to make way for the special feature -event of the meeting. "Your Village" was the subject of very interesting and instructive talks by John S. Miller, Jr., president of the village, Carl Zeiss, member of the Park board, Walter S. Shoemaker, of the School board, and H. I. Woolhiser, Village manager. Talks on Village Affairs Mr. Miller urged the need of yard facilities for storage of village equip- ment. He visualized in an interesting man- ner how government had traveled west- ward in parallel lines, thus giving Win- netka the old New England form of government plus the more modern vil- lage manager system. Mr. Zeiss called attention to the recreation facilities at Elm Street Beach and at Playfield and spoke en- couragingly of future activities of the Board in improving conditions at the Elder lane Beach and in supplying new skating rinks. Mr. Shoemaker warned against a feeling of complacency in connection with school facilities. He presented statistics to show that according to the present rate of growth, Winnetka would require dighteen new school rooms by 1927--and that it is none too early to begin planning for them now. Mr. Woolhiser spoke of the import- ance of management in village affairs which . offered responsibilities, and the judicious handling of an inconie, equal to that of the larger corporations. It was an interesting program and A OR WC A. W. Seek Better Light The committee on street lighting re- ported favorably on the question of better illumination at the Indian Hill stations. The Entertainment committee, which is also a very excellent quartet, fur- nished the musical program--a-la-quar- tet,--ably supported by Mrs. Fitch, who delighted the audience with two of her characteristic readings. President Bryson announces that the drive for 100 per cent membership in the Indian Hill Improvement associa- tion will begin November 18 and that the membership committee has been instructed to 'secure as members every adult residing south of Willow street. Refreshments and dancing wound up the evening. The meeting was held as usual in the Greeley school Assembly hall. CHANGE MEETING PLACE Because of the White Elephant sale to be held next week in the gymnasium and Neighborhood room of Commun- ity House, the Friendship Circle will meet on the upper floor upon the occa- sion of their regular gathering Tues- day evening. There will be a special program and games, it is announced, and all working girls in the village are urged to attend.
