16 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1923 GIVES RECITAL "AT NEW TRIER Mrs. Edward MacDowell Is the Artist Mrs. Edward MacDowell, who has established an artists colony at Peter- boro, New Hampshire, as a memorial to her late husband, the noted composer, will give a lecture in the auditorium of 'New Trier High school Monday eve- ning, November 26, at 8:15 o'clock. The entire proceeds, aside from a few minor expenses, will go to the colony, as the use of the hall has been given to further the cause, it is explained. Mrs. MacDowell's recital will consist of a talk on the work done at Peter- boro, with pictures of that colony, in- terspersed with MacDowell music. "The Peterboro Colony is no longer a vague ideal of an experiment," states a member of the North Shore Mac- Dowell society, which is interested in the Peterboro project. "It is a practi- cal success." "During the summer months it sup- plies each worker with an individual studio, where he may devote himself to his work through the entire day, free from interruption and responsi- bility. As many of us know, the better the work, the slower the appreciation of the general public, and in the mean- ame the poet must live. To the major- ity of Colony members these few months -epresent the sole time for creative work, as the rest of the year must necessarily be given to earning a living. "Therefore, it is the object of the Colony to encourage the artist to pro- duce his best and to give him the great oportunity of association with other workers in the allied arts. "This wonderful place is purely ai American ideal and is worthy oi your cordial support. "It is the endeavor of small groups all over the country to raise an ade- quate endowment fund which will in- sure the permanency of the organiza- tion. "Tickets may be secured from Miss Helen Sears, 417 Warwick road, Kenil- worth. The gallery will be free to high school students." Present Colonial Play For Thanksgiving Week .
