WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, 1924 3 "Cow Footprints' to Fool Dry Agents This shoe, now a trophy in the prohibition unit at Washington, D. C., was worn by a distiller in the vicinity of Hillsboro, Fla. When the still was dis- covered no human footprints could be found but all around the still were bovine footprints. The frame is made of wire and on the bottom are what ap- pears to be two heels. In reality they are blocks of wood cut to resemble the hoofs of a cow. Explain Closing of Strip of New Road The {formal opening followed by closing the Belvidere road--State route No. 20--between Volo and Mec- Henry, has brought innumerable com- plaints and protests to the highway department of the Chicago Motor club. Investigation made by Charles P. Root, manager of the touring bureau of the club, showed that while the new pavement was thrown open to the public, it was necessary to close it again in order to complete filling in the shoulder grades. George N. Lamb, district state high- way engineer, made this explanation to the Chicago Motor club: R. C. A.
