The truck was just rounding the corner nicely when one of the side supports gave way, and half of the boards, blocks, and shingles on their way to Glencoe were, for the moment, retarded in their progress. Just what had happened conveyed it- self with lightening-like rapidity to the driver when he heard the deafening crash. Alighting painfully from his seat by the engine he ruefully surveyed the scene. It seemed that, having wrenched his knee only that morning, and being already late on his trip to Glencoe, this acicdent was the proverbial straw that so annihilated the camel's back. He was only human, and having relieved his emotions by a few picturesque, color- ful words, he began his task of reload- ing. With the help of several small boys and the moral persuasion of a WINNETKA TALK reporter, the lumber was soon restored to its original position, | - and the peg reinforced by a chain, while the driver drove gingerly off, whether to arrive safely at his destination with- out another spill--a matter which might seriously be doubted. Under such circum- stances, aid from the life guards at Ev- anston is about as available, some folks say, as it would be from Chicago. Sanborn Hale, cashier of the Win- netka State bank, says it would be a judicious investment for the village to spend a couple of thousand dollars for a fast motor craft. It could be put in charge of the police department and kept in constant readiness during the sum- mer months for any emergency on the town's shore. In winter, Mr. . Hale added, the boat could be moored and sheltered at the village power house.
