18 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1924 COOL WEATHER MAKES REAL ESTATE SITUATION ENCOURAGING REALTY BOARDS HOME OWNERS Securing Own Headquarters Popular Idea * Real estate boards have done much to place before the public the security and satisfaction of home ownership. And within a period of three days three member boards of the National association of Real Estate Boards have announced that as boards they are to have that security and those satisfactions for themselves. The Louisville, Kentucky, Real Estate board, the Miami, Florida, Real Estate board, and the Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Real Estate board each report that they have acquired their own home. The Louisville board's permanent home will also be the home of the Kentucky Real Estate association and of the Louisville Association of Build- ing Owners and Managers. Property directly across the street from the municipal center of Louisville has just been purchased by the board at a cost of $30,000. Members of the board have donated $10,000 as the first pay- ment on the purchase. Various com- mittees of the board are already working on plans to remodel the en- tire property into a modern board home to cost, when completed, in the neighborhood of $50,000. The Miami Realty board has just signed a contract for the erection of a fifteen-story administrative building to cost three quarters of a million dollars. The building will contain 182 offices, and auditorium, a club room and a dining room, and will have the entire fifteenth floor reserved for the board's executive suite. Space not needed for board quarters will be rented for private business. The board announces that the building is planned to be the finest building of its size in the south. The Delaware county, Pennsylvania, Real Estate board is less than two years old. It is therefore, the young- est organization in the national as- sociation to have acquired its own home. The Philadelphia Real Estate board, first board in the national association to build its own home, completed its structure in 1923, financing it with a $200,000 bond issue purchaseable by members only. The Cincinnati Real Estate board owns its own headquarters. The Columbus, Ohio, Real Estate board has remodeled a building owned as board headquarters and valued at $154,000. The Evanston, Illinois, Real Estate board began to occupy its new $50,000 home in February of this year. The Chicago Real Estate board and the Pittsburgh Real Estate board are in the process of acquiring permanent board homes. The Toledo Real Estate board is building its own three-story cut stone structure. HILL AND STONE ACTIVE Reports from the Hill and Stone real estate offices in Wilmette show negotiations of the following recent transactions: Ralph Potter, 710 Lin- den avenue, purchased the home of Morton L. Patterson at 925 Chestnut avenue; Edward Bond has moved to the home of Edward F. Schoeneck, 815 Oakwood avenue, from whom he purchased the dwelling recently. Mrs. Lockwood, whose home at 2651 Broadway, was sold, will live with the Edward Band family. BUYERS, OWNERS AT VARIANCE ON PRICES Real estate buyers are still sensitive about purchasing property along the north shore, in the opinion of most inorth shore agents and brokers. Al- though the last few weeks have shown somewhat increased activity than dur- ing most ofthe summer and spring, in many ifstantes-where deals were con- summated concessions were necessary to encourage investors, stated one of the real estate brokers. There is a féeling among many prospective buyers that the coming presidential election, the poor weather conditions all summer and the FKuro- pean situation, should encourage the owners to reduce the price of prop- erty. On the other hand, owners de- mand that sales of their property be made only at their prices because they feel that north shore property will be in demand right along. Thus the real estate brokers are placed in a dilema which they can scarcely avoid. "It's rather difficult to determine whether present owners will dispose of their property at the prices they want, yet, they can hardly be blamed when they note the progress that is being made along the north shore," one broker remarked. "There have been many prospective property buyers to "see" north shore properties, but they don't want to pay the prices asked, it is stated. RICHARDS-TILDEN WILL PLAY ON SKOKIE COURTS On Saturday and Sunday, Septem- ber 20 and 21, Vincent Richards, win- ner of men's singles at the Olympic games, and other prominent tennis players will be at the Skokie Country club courts, according to announce- ment by the club's Tennis committee. Tennis matches will start at 3 o'clock on each day. Richards will play on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. On Sunday he will play William T. Tilden, national champion, perhaps the greatest player the world has ever produced. Vincent Richards, according to his showing this year, should be second in the world's ranking. He is the Olympic singles and doubles cham- pion and besides holding many other titles he is the only player among the world's best players in the U. S. National matches, who ran Tilden to five sets and almost beat him. It is considered that, today, he is the only man who has a very good chance of beating Tilden. He was second on the Davis cup team, ranking ahead of Johnston and defeating Patterson and O'Hara decisively in single matches. ISSUE BUILDING PERMIT The issuance of a building permit to H. W. Mons to build a $31,000 dwell- ing at 157 Woodstock avenue, has been authorized by the Village of Kenilworth. McGUIRE AND ORR SALE McGuire and Orr report from the Wilmette branch the sale of the James Topp home at 220 Broadway; W. C. Koebelin home at 720 Prairie; the Rosenteil home at 1316 Hill street and a lot at Greenleaf avenue and Golf terrace.
