8 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1924 CIZEK EXHIBIT LECTURE THEME Novel Method of Art In- struction to Be Explained to Local Teachers UNIQUE PHILOSOPHY Skokie School to Be Scene of Demonstration Hanns Koller, who is in charge of the famous Cizek exhibit of children's art in the Art Institute of Chicago, will speak at the general faculty meet- ting of the Winnetka teachers, Mon- day afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Skokie school, telling something of the philosophy which underlies the remarkable art instruction which has been given in Vienna for a number high school, and North Shore Coun- try Day school to be present at this meeting. They also welcome any par- ents who are interested. The exhibit of children's work, which is at the Art Institute for a month, was first shown at the British International Exhibition in Wembly, and then at the Metropolitan museum in New York City. It has also been shown in the Brooklyn institute, in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington and Chautauqua. Gains International Fame The work of the Cizek school has won international fame for the re- markable art production of its chil- dren. While Cizek is from Czecho- Slovakia, the school itself is in Vien- na. Very little technique is taught, it being the ideal of Professor Cizek to develop each child's individuality and orginality to its utmost. To quote Mr. Koller, who is to address the Winnetka teachers: "The thousands of children who have developed their individualities by working in an atmosphere of free- dom, love and understanding and the manifold character of their capacity and activity are a joyful witness to the eternal presence of the creative spirit in every human being. Advocates Creative Effort "It is the children, if we allow them to be children, who will attain what those who are not familiar with the language, are asked to give their serv- ices. Mrs. E. W. Wortley will be glad to receive the names of volunteers. She can be reached at the Community House during the morning. THIRD PARTY CAMPAIGN OPENS ON NORTH SHORE A meeting of Progressive women, who are eager to foster the growth of the Third party on the north shore, was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Edwin Meyers to perfect a per- manent organization and discuss future activities. J. Snydacker, Kenilworth; Mrs. E. A. Meyers, Winnetka, (temporary); Mrs. Clarence Balke, Highland Park; Mrs. Florence Wampler, Ravinia. The chairman for Glencoe is to be named later. The new organizatoin feels especially fortunate, it is explained, in securing for its first mass meeting, Osward Gar- rison Villard of New York, editor of The Nation, who will discuss campaign issues of the day at the Elm Place school auditorium, Highland Park, Sun- day, September 28, at 3:30 o'clock, and in Evanston on Sunday evening. These meetings are open to the public. Everyone on the north shore who is interested in the Progressive movement is urged to affiliate with this group by handing his name to the nearest chair- man.
