WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1924 CHURCH LEADER NAMED BISHOP Mgr. Kelley Consecrated on October 2 The consecration of Bishop Francis C. Kelley, who was pastor of St. Francis Xavier's church of Wilmette for seven years, took place Thursday morning at the Cathedral of the Holy Name Cardinal George Mundelein Ha --------------------=----------------------------] Bishop F. C. Kelley was the consecrator. Visiting bishops from Mexico and Canada participated in the consecration. Bishop Kelley will celebrate his high pontificial mass at St. Francis Xavier's church Sunday October 5. The Ouilmette Council of the Knights of Columbus will hold a banquet in honor of the prelate Thursday evening, October 9, at the Orrington hotel. The bishop will leave for Oklahoma, October 14. Bishop Kelley was born in Vernon River, Prince Edward Island, Canada, October 23, 1870 and was educated at St. Dunstan's college Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and Nicolet Seminary, Quebec, institutions of the University of Laval. He was aide-de-camp with the rank of colonel to the commander-in-chief of the Spanish American War Veterans and for 10 years was vice commander- general of the Military Order of Foreign Wars. At various times he has been chaplain of the Illinois Commandery of the Naval and Mili- tary Order of the Spanish-American War. = Bishop Kelley has published five books. The bishop has had diplomatic. ex- perience as a special negotiator, on behalf of the Holy See, on the ques- tion of German and Austrian missions, and had charge of the interests of Mexican exiles on behalf of the Catholic church of the United States during the Carranza revolution in that country. This past June he was ap- pointed Bishop of Oklahoma. Lutheran Young People to Hold Convention Here The North Shore Zone of the Walther league is to hold its quarter- ly convention in St. John's Lutheran church, Wilmette and Park avenues, Wilmette, Sunday afternoon and eve- ning, October 19. About 200 members of the league are expected to be guests of the local parish on that oc- casion. Convention sneakers will include Rev. William Dallmann author and lecturer, of Milwaukee, and Rev. M. Tennis, of Trinity Lutheran church, Oak Park. EDITION POSTPONED Owing to some difficulties in the print- ing, the De Luxe edition of the maga- zine of the Illinois League of Woman Voters will not be on sale today, as planned, but will be on hand either one week from today or on October 14, which is also a registration day for vot- ers not previously registered. Gonsalves, has been named the Franklin building after the city of Franklin, Ind., where Mrs. Gonsalves lived before coming to Winnetka. The Adams Pharmacy, J. H. Deth- loffs, Men's furnishings, the Bradstreet real estate company and Otto Dovidat, the tailor, are located in the Franklin building. Ancther Discussion on Park Project Oct. 13 Monday, October 13, is the date set for an adjourned public hearing at Community House on the proposed purchase by the Winnetka Park dis- trict of approximately 100 acres of Skokie land for park purposes. The matter has been discussed at two previous hearings, the Park board encountering serious opposition to the project.
