WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1924 CALL PARENTS T0 CLASSROOM New Trier P. T. A. to Visit with Instructors Parents of children attending New Trier high school will go to school Wednesday night, November 5, start- ing at 7 o'clock. At that time the first meeting of the entire Parent-Teacher association will be held. The parents will go to the classes regularly attended by their children and meet the teachers. They will discuss the courses offered in the school curriculm, and the value of the various studies. They will also ex- press their opinions on the preparation of the students for higher education and for vocations. The classes will terminate at 10 o'clock and the entire group will later meet in the school auditorium where Superintendent Frederick E. Clerk will explain the new marking system adopted. The new marking system to be used at New Trier this year is similar to systems employed by most of the col- leges and universities throughout the country, and in many high schools, it is explained. It is commonly referred to as the point system. A specific number of quantity credits are required for graduation, as in the past. Courses totaling 85 quantity credits must be completed and under the new system, the stu- dent must have earned 170 quality points. The quality points are count- ed on the basis of the grades received by the pupils. The grades will be given in letters instead of on the percentage basis as in the past. The marks on the students' reports will be A, B, C, D or F, denoting the quality of the work done by the students. A grade denotes excellent or super- ior work and earns four quality points for each quantity credit; B, good or above average work, three quality points for each quantity credit; C, fair or average work, two quality points for each quantity credit; D, poor but passable work, one qualit points for each quantity credit; R failure, no quality point or quantity credit. In order to graduate, the __student must de at least an average of C grade work, during the four YGars. wwe Superintendent Clerk will give the reasons for the adoption of this sys- tem and explain 'its advantages over the percentage grading as used in the past. The officers of the New Trier high school Parent-Teacher association are Clarence MacNeille, Glencoe, presi- dent; Mrs. James F. Porter, Hubbard Woods, vice president; Mrs. Edgar Stevens, Kenilworth, secretary-treas- urer. Only one other meeting of the entire association is scheduled for the START LECTURE SERIES AT CENTER ON TUESDAY The first lecture of the course on the Book of Genesis, which the Rev. James A. Richards is giving to the people of Winnetka, will begin at 10 o'clock on Tuesday morning, October 28, in the Neighborhood room of Community House. A large number of registra- tions have been made for the course, and those who have not yet sent in their names may do so by telephone to the church office, it is announced. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome to attend. It is desirable to know in ad- vance about how many will be present. The opening lecture will deal with the place of Genesis in literature and his- tory, its authorship, composition and authenticity, and some of the religious ideas to be gained from it. The special study of chapter one will be of added value to those who bring Bibles for reference, it is pointed aut. "Many have expressed gratitude that this chance for Bible study is available at our doors, without the need of jour- neying to the city," writes a member of the Congregational church. "Those who have had the good fortune, of hearing Mr. Richards' morning lectures in past years are eager to share again this op- portunity for quiet thinking and infor- mal discussion of the great things in life and religion." and Dust -- Murine In summer the EYES frequently become blood - shot from the irritating effects of wind and dust.
