Below, left to right--Mrs. Edwin F. Snell; Mrs. Quincy L. Dowd; Mrs. Benjamin S. Winchester. Editor's note: Accompanying is the final installment of interesting informa- tion regarding the recent Fiftieth Anni- versary celebration of the Winnetka Congregational church. This material contains a report of the closing cere- monies of the Jubilee fete. On Thursday and Friday evenings, October 23 and 24, the Religious Pageant presented by the Community Players under the direction af Mrs. Sherman M. Goble, was attended by capacity audiences, who were deeply im- pressed with the spiritual message con- tained in each of the six episodes. The beauty of the lines, written and ar- ranged by Mrs. B. F. Langworthy, the aptness of the stage setting, the rich- ness of the color in scenes and in the costumes and the earnestness of the players themselves, combined to produce an effect of deep significance and of lasting value. On Saturday evening, many friends, both old and new, gathered at the par- sonage to meet Mr. and Mrs. James A. Richards, Dr. and Mrs. J. W. FE. Davies, and their guests, Mrs. Edwin F. Snell, Mr. and Mrs. Dowd and Dr. and Mrs. Winchester. Miss Harriet Kidder, daughter of the first regular minister of the church, was present; also Miss Kehr, daughter of Cyrus H. Kehr, one of the early residents of the village. Miss Kehr was born in Winnetka, and lived here until about ten years of age, She is at present Dean of the Women's faculty at Lake Forest college. On Sunday morning, 'Rev. James A. Richards preached from the text, "The Next Fifty Years," and told the very definite plans and hopes of the church body for its further development and growth "in the community. The Jubilee exercises were brought to a fitting conclusion late the same after- noon by a candle light service of con- secration at which the communion was celebrated . The visiting former pastors, Mr. Dowd and Dr. Winchester assisted Mr. Davies and Mr. Richards at this service. Mrs. Samuel Carothers of Ben Avon, Pennsylvania, has been spending a few days with her brother and sister-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Fleming, 787 Foxdale avenue. The wife told me to bring home the meat for din- ner tonight, but I don't know what to get. Every butcher shop you go into has the same old thing. There's no variety or selection. The trouble with you is that you take too much for granted. If you traded at PETERS MARKET as I do, you'd have no complaint to make. There isn't another shop in town that carries as large selec- tion of meats as they do. They have all the staples as well as lots of specialties. Watch for their Saturday specials. PETERS MARKET Approaching Holidays IT TAKES A WOMAN to select gifts that men really appreciate, since they almost invar- iably choose useful articles. A woman's judgment at Christmas time is much in demand and is usually good. That is why we are going to enumerate the many useful and suitable things we have for men.
