i Mh WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1924 11 'EAGER HEART' IS CAPTIVATING Community Players Enthrall Their Audiences No more beautiful expression of the real spirit of Christmas can be found anywhere than that which animated the Community Drama club's gift to the village of "Eager Heart." Through all this busiest month of all the busy year 21 people gave un- selfishly of their time and strength, at real sacrifice that all who would, might enter in, with Eager Heart, in her finding of the regl King of All the World. This is the fourth Christmas that Mrs. Sherman Goble has directed the Christmas play at Community House. Two years ago, Eager Heart was given, for the first time, in the gym- nasium at Community House. Its re- petition, in the beautiful Rudolph Matz hall, with adequate stage, cyc- lorama, lights and other equipment enabled the cast to do more easily and beautifully what was well done before. Many of the participants were the same, both among the play- ers and the musicians. The leading character Eager Heart. having refused to be tempted by I'ager Sense, and Eager Fame at last leads the shepherds, and the kings with her in a search for the coming King. This King they find at last waiting in Fager Heart's own poor home which she opened lovingly for shelter for the poor wanderer with his wife and child who found no other doors opened to them, that night. As the play progressed the lines were so sincerely given--the music, both instrumental and vocal, so ex- quisitely appropriate, the grouping and color effects so lovely that the audi- ence sat, as at a religious service, which indeed it was, in reverent silence. So, was ushered in the Christ- mas week. The cast and persons helping was as follows: Eager Heart ...... Mrs. John Marshall Eager Fame .Mrs. James A. Richards Fager Sense ...... The winter's ice has claimed its toll, having stoved a big hole into the hull of the old schooner-club house of the Buccaneers, a group of north shore yachtsmen and sailors. The ship is immersed to the up- per deck, only the tops of the fore and aft decks and the mast being visible. The mishap represents a loss of thousands of dollars in rich furnishings and invaluable relics of the pirate craft. "The Port of Missing Men" dropped anchor in Wilmette harbor in May of 1921 under the expert seamanship of such well known north shore men as Julian Armstrong, John Burnham, W. B. Hale, Godfrey H. Atkin, Edward S. Main, Os- car Haugen, R. M. Roloson and others. It is a replica of a pirate caravel and is constructed from a rebuilt 60-year old lake schooner, the superstructure having been carefully patterned after the fash- ion of pirate ships. Her gay colorings provided a unique spectacle in the har- bor and the vessel has attracted the at- tention of many thousands of motorists who have passed over the Sheridan road bridge in the past few years. It has not been decided what the club will do in the direction of rehabilitating the craft, which has been the center of canoeing and sailing activity since brought to the north shore.
