Cree, 779 | Foxdale avenue, was damaged to the extent of about $3,000 by fire, early Sunday morning. Defective electric wiring is presumed to have been the cause of the fire, which originated in the ceiling of the first floor and which had extended through to the attic and roof when the fire depart- ment arrived. Chief H. M. Houren and his force made a record run to the fire and almost instantly had it under control. It was a fine piece of work for which the department has received many congratulations. ANNUAL FUND APPEAL (Continued from page 1) lot of good stuff in him, but ' What followed, indicated a problem not un- common in the life of active boys. What he wanted was some help in di- recting that activity. Look in on my Pathfinder club. There are fifty boys enough to wreck or make an in- stitution or community. They are get- ting acquainted with those things that make up a town. We've been to the telephone héadquarters and meat mar- ket, the bank and Village Hall, the Fire Department and general merchan- dise store, the water and light plant and the Stock Show, the ice plant and church. We go to every institution in Winnetka and to as many others as we can. We want to meet and talk with the head of the business, too. We are gathering ideas as to what is need- ed in a town and maybe it will help us discover what "we want to do. A 'Pathfinder' is supposed to be on the square. He can get in when he is nine and gets out when he is twelve." "This is only one of the groups Community House helps, by enabling folks to use spare time in a construc- tive way. { "Do you know there are sixty-five meh signed up to give time to the Boy Scouts? ™ Budget Same as for 1926 The following budget is practically the same as for the past two years All items of this budget are very care- fully watched by the business com- mittee and the treasurer's office so as to keep expense within income: Auto Maintenance ............ 300.00 Insurance : Annuity ..... Tt is hoped in this campaign (among residents of the vil- lage not attending the Congregational church) to secure $11,000 additional. The difference, amounting to about $5,000, is secured by active member- ship dues, of those who use the House personally; from rentals and from mo- tion picture receipts. The Governors of Community House are J.» W. F. Davies, director: SS. Bowles King, secretary; Ayres Boal, William C. Boyden, Arthur Earl Bry- son, Francis P. Butler, Arlan W. Con- verse, Harry N. Gottlieb, George D. Wolf and Carl Zeiss. The appeal for support is signed bv the Finance committee, of which S. Bowles King is chairman. Okean Family Occupies Residence in Winnetka M. B.
