Never Never!" says papa to his young son, "will you ever marry an English girl, who may have a title but no heart, who probably wants you only for your money, and not because she loves you." "But father," says Junior, the son, "Elinor really does love me--and--well --if you only knew her." But papa is adamant. In another home a similar scene is taking place, where once again one sees an irate father, raving at his daughter, Elinor, the girl whom Junior loves. "My word, Elinor, you don't mean-- you couldn't think of--oh, it's too impossible! One of those vulgar Amer- icans who exists for the pleasure of chewing gum and making money. Why, it's horrible to think of such a thing |" Whereupon Elinor's reply is similar to that of Junior. She and her fiance are deeply in love. What else matters? But this English papa, like the Ameri- can papa, does not see it that way. Such a dilemma will be found the evening of May 28, when the New Trier Dramatic club will present its annual senior play, this year to be "So This Is London," by Arthur Good- rich. The difficulties exhibited by an American family visiting in England when they realize that their one and only son has inconsiderately fallen in love with the daughter of one of those "tea hounds," those conceited Englsh- men, takes up the greater part of the storv. From the point of view of the English family, the situation is just as trying. However, all of the characters, it is found, reckoned without the help of Lady Ducksworth, an American by birth, but the wife of an English earl. She, a sympathizer with the cause of the hero and heroine, proves to be the connecting link, and it is her clever- ness that brings the play to a happy end. Just how she accomplishes her ends, many humorous situations, and a rather subtle characterization on the part of the author, make "So This Is London," a comedy that few can afford to miss. There is a cast of eleven students, chosen from the senior class, five faculty directors of various depart- ments, each one helping as in ever) production, to make the play more worth-while, the stage crew, properties committee, publicity committee, ticket sales committee, and art committee, the last five organizations numbering twenty-nine. In other words, "So This Is London" is to be a really big production, made possible by an able cast and the help of the aforemention- ed workers.
