HONORS OLD TIMERS North Shore Unit of Knights of Columbus Makes Merry in Annual Celebration By the Scribe OQuilmette council, Knights of Colum- bus, .met last Tuesday evening at Odd Fellows' hall and, amidst great enjoy- ment and the company of many nota- bles, celebrated Old Timers' night as it has never before been done. Grand Knight Ed. Cunningham opened the business session early and the assemblage was ready for the fea- ture event at 8:15. At that time quite a few of the famous Old Timers were on deck, but as the minutes hurried on, more of the guests of the evening ar- rived. To begin the Old Timers' program, Past Grand Knight Flaherty, who was G. K. of Ouilmette council when that body met for the first time August 21, 1904, took the gavel and charge of the affair. His co-officers were: financial secretary, John Williams, who served in that capacity during the first eight years of Ouilmette's life; recorder, Bill Obermeier, to whom much of the local knights reputation and enthusiasm is due; deputy G. K. Frank Seng and warden, Bill Dooley, both charter members; James Hoffman, also a char- ter knight, acted as chancellor. The roll-call of past grand knights names was answered by Father Rubey, chaplain, who led prayers for those on the roster who have died. This was followed by the reading of some "mythical" minutes of a 1905 session, which were prepared by Bill Ober- meier. They included, appropriations for a horse and buggy for the chaplain and a beer pump purchased from John Mil- len; also a resolution by John Schopen to eliminate horseless carriages as they put blacksmiths out of business, and a treasury report of $4,500. Letters of regret explaining their absence from the meeting from Father McGuinness, Johnny Evers, a charter member and former star on the Chi- cago Cubs, and Judge Barasa, also an initial member, were read. Fathers Rubey, Neumann a n d Kremer, all members of the local group, addressed the assembly, as did State Secretary Henry Lynch, District Dep- uty James Moynihan, John DeHaye, a charter trustee, and a number of the Old Timers. Singing was next in order and then George White served one of his fa- mous luncheons. Ouilmette council, with standard bearers, will march in a body in the Corpus Christi procession to be held Sunday morning on Ridge avenue and nearby streets. The procession will follow 10 o'clock high mass at St. Jo- seph's church. Theé entire congrega- tion will take part in the event. On the following Sunday two special North Shore line cars will carry mem- bers and candidates to the third degree exemplification at Waukegan, Mec- Henry, Lake Forest and Waukegan councils will also have a representa- tion at the affair. Ouilmette members will partake of a luncheon affair after the degree, to be served on the cars, homeward bound. Mr. George A. Harper, dean of boys at New Trier High school, re- turned to Winnetka on Thursday, June 9, from Tucson, Ariz.,, where he and his family spent the winter. The Harpers have taken the Park home next to the one they used to occupy at 414 Winnetka avenue.
