June 18, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 9 Some Go East and Some Go West and Plenty to Europe Vacation plans among the teachers of the Hubbard Woods school assume the diversification of those reported tn have been considered by President Coolidge before he finally "hopped off" to the Black Hills. Six of the eighteen members of the faculty will attend the World conference on edu- cation which will be held in Locarno, Switzerland. Three others will teach the Winnetka system of individual instruction in educational institutions of the United States; while the re- mainder will utilize the vacation period for divers purposes. The Europe bound mentors of edu- cation are Miss Luella Swartz, Miss Rose Damberg, Miss Ruth Damberg, Miss Anna Cox, Miss Margaret Cars- well and Miss Marion Carswell. Miss Marion Carswell is the principal of the school. Mrs. Mildred Hughes will demon- strate the Winnetka system at the Colorado State Teachers college in Greeley, Colorado, and will later travel in the west. Miss Ella Marie Kamplin will leave within the next few days for her home in South Dakota. Miss Ethel VanCleve will be among those enjoying the beaches of the north shore. Miss Frieda Barnett will teach in the summer session of the local schools. Miss Catherine Smith will demon- strate the Winnetka system in the Missouri State Teachers college at Cape Giraideau, which is one of the cities recently visited by floods. Her friends are urging her to take along a pair of boots. Miss Lila Graham will leave shortly ior her home in Coffeville, Kansas, and Summer Session for Local | Schools to Start Monday The regular summer session of the Winnetka schools will open next Mon- day, June 20, at 9 o'clock in the Hor- ace Mann school. Classes will be held every morning from 9 o'clock to 12 for children in all grades from first to eighth and will be conducted upon the regular plan of Winnetka individual instruction. They will be confined to the fundamental subjects. The teachers for the summer ses- sion, it was announced, will be as fol- lows: primary grades, Mrs. Frieda Barnett from the Hubbard Woods school and Miss Milicent Anderson from Horace Mann. The teachers of the middle grades will be Miss Jose- phine Bryan, formerly of Horace Mann, Miss Jeannette Baer from Greeley and Miss Mabel Ducker from Horace Mann. Teachers of the upper grades will be Miss Gertrude Nether- cott from Horace Mann and Miss La- Reina Bubbett from Skokie. Miss Bubbett will be principal of the Sum- mer School. Mrs. E. F. Colburn, mother of Mrs. M. W. Frissel of 562 Hawthorn lane, left Wednesday for Oshkosh and Chip- pewa Falls, Wis. She has been visit- ing her daughter since Christmas. will later travel in the West.
