10 WINNETKA TALK October 8, 1927 "Invest in Boyhood" October has been decided upon as the month for the "Invest in Boyhood" campaign to be carried on by the men of the various north shore communities in securing the funds to carry on the Boy Scout work of the North Shore Area council for the coming year. Because of the rapid increase in Scouting during the past vear, both in quantity and the enrichment of quality, the men of the north shore council, | Boy Scouts of America, are setting out to raise a larger budget to make pos- sible a rapidly growing program. The $12,000 quota which is being.sought will be used in the carrying out of a stronger advancement program, service to troop committeemen, equipment for camping and outdoor activities, for the educational program, for training, for activities such as field and rally days, for administration, executives' salaries, and traveling expenses in going from town to town. Tri-Ship Club Sponsors Employment Organization An employment agency, organized by the New Trier Tri-Ship for the plr- pose of supplving needy students with work during the school vear and at the same time serving the general pub- lic by furnishing those desiring it, with competent help, is now in operation at the local High school. Letters are being mailed out to all men and women's organizations and clubs and to merchants throughout the township in an endeavor to establish a regular patronage so that students actually needing help to enable them to continue with their schooling, may always find it. All residents of the north shore having need for help are urged to phone the High school offices or to Preston Read, chairman of the committee in charge. Residents are assured that only competent help will be sent them. The officers and chairmen of com- mittees of the Skokie Valley chapter of the Daughters of American Revo- lution met with Mrs. Cone, the regent, on Monday. Plans are being made for a most interesting series of programs The Chapter meets on the fourth Mon- day of each month beginning in Octo- ber. Announce Patron List for Watson Lectures The North Shore Art league an- nounces among the list of patrons and vatronesses for the series of lectures Dudley Crafts Watson will give under its auspices, a group from Wilmette and Kenilworth. This list includes the following persons: Mr. and Mrs. Franklin J. Scheidenhelm, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Drake, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roberts and. Mr. and Mrs Percy Eckhart. The first of the series, a lecture on "Art and Life in Spain," will be given in Matz hall, Community House, the locale for all of the course, Monday evening, October 10. Tickets will be on sale at the door for those who have not vet purchased them. Harvey T. Woodruff to Speak to Tri-Ship Club Harvey T. Woodruff, conductor of the "Wake of the News" in the Chi- cago Tribune, will address the New Trier Tri-Ship club at its meeting on Thursday evening, October 20, on the subiect of "Experiences in the Field of Sports." Over 300 boys are expect- ed to attend as the freshmen of the school will take part in their first Tri- Ship meeting.
