Winn. 1840 Music Departments of Public Schools Make Fine Progress Prospects in the musical departments of the Winnetka schools are excep- tionally bright, according to those in charge. The Skokie school orchestra has begun winter activities and is said to be the best organization in the his- now | tory of the school. There are twenty-four members, representing a splendidly diversified instrumental ar- rangement and achieving remarkable results for this early in the season. A selected orchestra of 16 pieces presented a concert of four pieces at the Hubbard Woods and Greeley schools last Wednesday, demonstrating for musical appreciation purposes the part the various instruments play in orchestral presentations. The orches- tra was selected and the program . | presented under the direction of { Lawrence Yingling, director of music. The all school girls' glee club is also completely organized and con- sists of thirty-six voices. Rehearsals are being held once a week in ad- dition to chorus rehearsals and the club displays excellent musical pros- pects. The changed-voice chorus like wise is now in full swing and has eighteen members. The W. W. Kimball company will continue its Friday noonday concerts this season, heginning October 7 in Kimball hall. The Girvin String En- semble will give the first program. Fay Epperson, whistler, is the novel attrac- tion for this Friday. Direction of these concerts is in the capable hands of Allen W. Bogen, official organist of Kimball hall. Clabaugh, Chairman of the Pardon and Parole Board of Illinois, Sunday Club Speaker Hinton G. Clabaugh of Winnetka, head of the Pardon and Parole board of the State of Illinois, will be the speaker at the Wilmette Sunday Eve- ning club October 16. His, subject will be, "Crime and ILaw Enforcement." Mr. Clabaugh was virtually drafted for the chairmanship of the parole board by Governor Len Small about two years ago, following charges of wholesale graft and unfair dealing lodged against parole board officials, which later resulted in a complete re- adjustment of that body. Mr. Clabaugh gained a national rep- utation for efficiency and fair-dealing in his capacity as chief of the depart- ment of justice in the Chicago area during the world war. The musical program this Sunday will be given by Miss Sabina Cassa- grande, harpist. The musical artists' program given before the Sunday club last week was generally regarded as one of the finest ever presented in Wilmette.
