December 10 1927 WINNETKA TALK 17 Santa Radios Call for Help and Whole School Says "O.K." Wednesday, November 30, the chil- dren of the North Shore Country Day school, Winnetka, received over the radio a message from Santa Claus, ask- ing if they are ready to help him again this year. The radio message came while the | school was having a morning assembly, there was an emphatic chorus of as- sent. Since that morning, all departments of the school have been turned into a work shop for Santa Claus. Follow- ing the close of school in the afternoon, and during the students' free periods 'the children are working in one or an- ther of the various sections--the doll, game, paint, mechanical, boat shop, the book department, etc. Here they are making new and repairing old toys. There is a student head of each section and each child in school is en- rolled under one special department and pledges his free time to work for it. Thursday, December 15, Santa Claus will call at the school during their an- nual Christmas party and receive the completed work of this Toy shop, which he will deliver to various set- tlements and to needy families in and about Chicago. Friday, December 16, the school will close for the holidays. The final Christmas festival will be the Christ- mas play, at twilight time, 4 o'clock in the new auditorium. The play this year has been written and prepared by the boys and girls of the Eighth grade. LOCAL POLICEMAN WEDS Miss Mary Elizabeth Noble, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. William Noble of 1010 Oak street, has chosen December 28 as the date for her marriage to Patrolman Carl F. Bishop of the Win- netka Police force. Patrolman Bishop is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Bishop of Tomahawk, Wis. The Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority gave a tea on Friday afternoon, Decem- ber 5, for the pledges of all the sorori- ties at Northwestern university. Book Plates Crests | Heraldic Artist 4 Coats of Arms Etchings Artistic Lamp Shades Studio 17 Rapp Building Winnetka Purple Will Open Cage Season This Saturday Northwestern will introduce its sec- ond new major sport coach Saturday when Coach Arthur "Dutch" Lonborg pits his Purple charges against the invading Wabash college five here in the opening of the basketball schedule. Coach Lonborg is a product of Kansas and comes direct from Washburn college at Topeka, Kans., where he had unusual success during the last four years. Four lettermen and a number of promising sophomores will make up the Purple team this season. These men are Waldo Fisher and Hal Gleich- mann, forwards, and Bobby Rusch and [Luke Johnsos, guards. A number of sophomores give prom- ise of working into regular jobs and are certain to force the regulars to hit a fast pace. Among these are Rut Wal- ters and Rus Bergherm, centers; Bob Harvey and John Whelan, forwards; Frank Marshall, Merril Mundy, Ralph Mehler, Edwin Carter, and Johnny Haas, guards. Les Heideman, Doug McKay and Bus Owens, guards from last year's team are also out for a place on the team. Companionate Marriages Is Theme for Rabbi Mann Rabbi Louis L. Mann of the Sinai Congregation, Chicago, spoke to the North Shore Congregation Israel on Judge Lindsey's "Companionate Mar- riage" at the Winnetka Masonic tem- ple, 708 Elm street, Winnetka, Friday, December 9, at 8:15. The subject is one that has attracted nation-wide at- tention, and Dr. Mann gave an inter- esting and enlightening lecture. He spoke on the theme: "Is it the Insti- tution of "I'rial Marriage,' or Is it the Institution of Marriage on Trial?"
