i a a January 14, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 31 Scoutmasters Plan Monthly Sessions During Wintertime Scout leaders from more than twen- ty-five north shore troops participated in the Appropriation dinner held Fri- day night, January 6, at the Green Tea Pot, at Highland Park. Karl D. King, council president, presided, W. R. Bimson, chairman of the Leader- ship Personnel committee, Charles Steele, chairman of the Camping com- mittee, Scout George Bersch, patrol leader of the "Wilderness" Winter camp group, Scout Executive Walter McPeek, Field Executive W. Ted Grant, and others spoke, The outstanding event of the evening was the expression on the part of the men of their desire for a monthly Scoutmasters' dinner. The program will be arranged by Mr. Bimson and will include an evening of fellowship and practical inter-change of ideas for all Scoutmasters. This will be followed at 8:30 by a session of training par- ticularly designed to aid new leaders and prospective leaders The next session will be held on Monday, February 20, at 6:30 at the Green Tea Pot at Highland Park. Add to Downtown Campus by $2,000,000 Purchase With the purchase of a $2,000,000 strip of land along Huron street from Lake Shore drive west to Fairbanks court, Northwestern university has just enlarged its McKinlock campus nearly 40 percent. This addition of 14 acres is expected to be used largely for hospitals, according to William A. Dyche, business manager. Plans in- clude the building of four new hospi- tals: Passavant, a children's hospital, a maternity hospital and a general hospital. Another addition to McKinlock campus as a center of learning is being anticipated with the reported sugges- tion of the Newberry library trustees to erect a new library building on the site they own opposite the campus, the southwest corner of Huron street and McClurg court. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Leppel of 237 Walden road, Glencoe, entertained at a sleighride on Friday evening, Jan- uary 6, in honor of the twelfth birthday of their younger daughter, Shirley. Their elder daughter, Miss Alice, who attends the Starrett school in Chicago, returned to spend the week-end with her parents, and brought as her guest, Miss Hortense Frieberger of Fort Wayne, Ind., her roommate. --_Q-- Mr. and Mrs. Guilford R. Windes, 460 Winnetka avenue, announce the birth of a daughter Friday, January 6. The baby has been named Nancy Elizabeth. Mrs. Katherine Hannah Is Summoned by Death Friday A death which brought with it much sorrow to Kenilworth residents was that of Mrs. Katherine Hannah, wife of the late Alexander Hannah of Chi- cago. Mrs. Hannah passed away at her residence on Abbottsford road, Friday, Januaiy 6. She had been active until Sunday, January 1, when she was stricken with pneumonia. The best medical aid in Chicago was sum- moned to assist the physicians already in attendance, but to no avail. Mrs. Hannah came to live in Kenilworth about eight years ago that she might be near her family. Mrs. Hannah leaves a son, Alexander Hannah, and two daughters, Mrs. Arthur McIntosh, and Mrs. Alexander Newton, all of Kenilworth, and a large group of grandchildren, and one great- grandchild, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ross (formerly Miss Connie Hannah). Funeral services were held at St. Francis Xavier's church in Wilmette, Monday morning, January 9, at 10 o'clock. "Way of Sperm Whaler," Museum Lecture Theme "The Way of the Sperm Whaler" is the subject of an illustrated lecture to be given at Field Museum of Natural History Sunday afternoon, January 22. Dr. Robert Cushman Murphy of the American Museum of Natural History, New York, is the lecturer. The lec- ture will be given in the James Simp- son theatre of the museum, and will begin at 3 p.m. While a portion of the theater is reserved for members of the museum, there will be several hundred seats available to the general public, and admission is free. Mr. and Mrs. George Allen Mason, Jr.,, whose marriage took place De- cember 29, in New Rochelle, N. Y., were expected to arrive in Chicago this week from their wedding journey. They will live in the new home Mr. Mason's parents have built for them at 730 Locust street, Winnetka. ---0-- Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Hurd of Chip- pewa Falls, Wis. visited their son-in- law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Barker, 557 Orchard lane, Winnetka, during the holi- days.
