May 19, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 53 Elect Helen Boylan 1st Vice-President of State B. & P. W. Miss Helen Boylan of Evanston was elected to the first vice presidency of the Illinois Federation of Business and Professional Women at the annual convention here last weekend which 215 delegates from all over the state attended. This is the second office in the state federation which Miss Boy- lan has held in as many years. Miss Erma Templeman of Spring- field, who presided at this year's con- vention, was reelected to the presi- dency, and the other officers named were: second vice president, Mrs. George McMahon of Robinson; corre- sponding secretary, Mrs. Rena Tom- lins of Springfield; recording secretary, Miss Jennie Rabjohns of Jacksonville; treasurer, Miss Emma M. Guenther. In a banquet attended by nearly 400 women the convention reached its close Saturday evening when one of the principal addresses was made by Miss Emily Kneubuhl, executive secre- tary of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women. Women as the determining factor in the November election .... Women as the leaders of the future who will complement the efforts their brothers have made in the past .... Women of economic independence . . . dream- ers of ideas which will reach fruition in contrast to men who usually think in terms of the past of present. These are the women Miss Kneubuhl con- ceived. "We have arrived at a new order in civilization," she said. "The industrial revolution has made us use that part of our anatomy above our necks." Fundamental to woman's new position is economic independence and, with that established, development of lead- ership = will follow, Miss Kneubuhl stated. "As individuals we should make ready to accept that leadership by making sure of our training, being particular of performance, and wise in our finances." Women have one. of their greatest responsibilities at the present, an. in- telligent ballot in November, stated the speaker and pointed out that the 49,000 women of the national federation could control 2,000,000 votes in this country, a number more than large enough to control the election.
