Graduates Aims of Education The game of education, according to Dr. Edwin Starbuck of the Institute of Character Research of the University of Iowa, is to develop a more refined personality, to bring about social re- construction of attitudes and pro- gressively to center the life in ideal values. This he stated in course of the com- mencement address he delivered Wed- nesday afternoon to the class of 230 girls graduated from the National Kindergarten and Elementary college, and the twelve girls given degrees in education there. Exercises were held at Harrison hall. Fourteen scholarships were awarded to students of outstanding scholastic ability and to those who have done exceptional work in their student teaching. Diplomas were pre- sented by President Edna Dean Baker and greetings extended by the presi- dent of the board of trustees, Merritt Starr. Mrs. Harry G. Phillips of Evanston was re-elected president of the national alumnae group of the National Kinder- garten and Elementary college when its alumnae day was held Saturday. Some 250 alumnae attended. They were addressed by President Edna Dean Baker. Members of the classes of 1898, 1908 and 1918 appeared in costumes of these periods. Members of the graduat- ing class were guests at the luncheon which was followed by a tour of the building. A motion picture of the Mary Crane nursery 'school was shown. Five hundred children from the Mary Crane nursery, Hull House; from Lake Mrs. Wilhelmina Hagen Dies at Age of 84 Years Mrs. Wilhelmina Hagen, mother of Fred J. Hagen, of 1387 Scott avenue, Hubbard Woods, died Thursday morn- ing, May 31, at the age of 84 years. Mrs. Hagen was taken ill with pneu- monia on the Sunday morning pre- vious. The funeral services were held Sat- urday morning at the son's home at Hubbard Woods and at St. Ann's cha- pel, Techny, Ill. Burial was at St. Mary's cemetery in Techny. Mrs. Hagen is survived by four sons and two daughters. They are: Mrs. Amelia Hockguertel, Chicago; Mrs. Kathryn Cleary, Fullerton, Cal.; Al- bert E. Hagen, Aurora, Ill.; William F. Hagen, Long Beach, Cal.; Dr. John C. Hagen, Alhambra, Cal.; and Fred J. Hagen, Hubbard Woods. Albert E. Hagen, of Aurora, and Mrs. Kathryn Cleary, of Fullerton, Cal, came to Hubbard Woods for the funeral. Mrs. Flora B. Mohr is Taken by Death June 2 Mrs. Flora B. Mohr, wife of Benja- min F. Mohr, of the Orrington 'hotel' at Evanston, and formerly a resident of Glencoe, died Saturday evening at! the Evanston hospital after a brief Bluff orphanage, Madonna Center, Howell Neighborhood House and several other settlements were entertained by the stu- dents of the college at their annual frolic Tuesday afternoon.
