June 16, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 13 Waukegan Champs Take Close Game from Local Nine The Waukegan K. of L. Winnetka game last Sunday was perhaps the most exciting baseball game that has been played on the local diamond in many seasons, the "North Shore Champs" fi- | nally emerging vic- | torious over the | locals, 5-4. The game was a pitching duel be- tween George Pan- osh, the pride of Winnetka and Harry Conrad, Waukegan twirler. Panosh pitched superb ball for sev- en innings, allow- ing but a single hit during this time. It had been announced that this would be his last game with Winnetka, as he had planned to leave for his home in Wisconsin, but he has chang- ed his plans and will be here for the remainder of the season, much to the delight of Winnetka fans. Jerre Hartman, assistant athletic di- rector of Northwestern university, who made his debut as manager of the Winnetka Baseball team, Sunday an- nounces that he will endeavor to give Winnetka Fans a fast, clean exhibition of the National past-time, each Sunday, at the Playfield, adding "there are to be no more traveling games--all are to be at Playfield. The time is 3 p.m." "Bill" Carey, catcher, is captain. It was in the eighth inning of last Sunday's game that the visitors found themselves. Two doubles and a home run were good for three, while two costly errors by Johnnie Lindholm and another two-bagger, pushed the visi- tors' total score up to five, for the inning. After going scoreless for six innings 'Winnetka awoke from their hitting slumber and scored a pair of runs. Panosh greeted Conrad with a single, to left, to open the inning. "Howy" Prange, who played second for Northwestern university this year, crashed out a double and Panosh halt- ed at third. Johnnie Lindholm then snatched out a single, scoring Panosh and Prange. After a let-down in the- eighth, which gave the visitors their five runs, Winnetka came back strong in their half and came within one of knotting the count. Holleb, who also played under the colors of the Purple this season, drew a walk, Jacobs pushed him to third, with a double, from whence he scored on Kadison's single. Panosh forced Kadison, then con- "Bill" Carey FUR REPAIRING Now before you store your furs for the summer, let me have them for REPAIRING RELINING REMODELING I can save you at least 80%.
