Gives $5,000 First Year "The Rosenwald fund has decided to make this Department of Educational Counsel in the Winnetka Public schools one of its first ventures in the field of general education. It will give to the Winnetka Board of Edu- cation $5,000 the first year, $4,000 the second, $3,000 the next, then $2,000, then $1,000, it being assumed that the Board of Education or the community will gradually take on the full support of the Department of Educational Counsel as its value to the schools and the community becomes evident. The department will also serve to some degree the North Shore Country Day school. "Mr. Alschuler's donation consists of a wing extending south from the present east front of the Skokie school and then extending west on Oak street. It will contain a kindergarten for the four-year-old children who have completed the nursery school work and are not yet eligible for regular kindergarten; a large nursery school room with a balcony approached by stairs, from which children may descend by a slide, and with a gold fish pool at one end; wardrobes and toilets for the little children; an isola- tion room, kitchenette, and office for the nursery school; and a suite of five offices for the Department of Educa- tional Counsel. The building is be- ing constructed and paid for by Mr. Alschuler as an unconditional gift to the Board of Education. Board Will Control "Administratively the entire control of the nursery school unit and the De- partment of Educational Counsel will rest in the hands of the Board of Education, which has not been required to make any commitment as to the future continuance of these units. Legionnaires to Elect Nominating Committee Election of a nominating committee authorized to nominate Post officers for the ensuing year will be the out- standing matter of business at the next regular meeting of Winnetka Post, No. 10, of the American Legion to be held Monday evening, June 18, in the Legion club rooms at Commun- ity House. The Post meets at 8:15 o'clock. Women Begin Play in Playfield Tournament The first Woman's tournament at Skokie Playfield golf course, Blind Bogey and Blind Hole event, was held last Wednesday and was well attended. Mrs. G. E. Andrews won first in the Blind Bogey and Mrs. R. W. Gerding took second place. The two Blind Hole events went to Mrs. R. N. Puetz and Mrs. J. J. Desmond. Wednesday, June 20, a Flag tourna- ment will be held and events are planned for very two weeks there- after. All events will be posted on the bulletin board. It is not too late for new members to join the ranks. Those wishing to get in the tourna- ments should drop three 18 hole scores in the score box so that their handi- cap can be figured by the committee and be on hand next Wednesday at 9:30 in the morning. LEON H. WINNE DIES Mr. Leon Hull Winne, formerly of Winnetka and more recently a resi- dent of Ravinia, passed away Saturday, June 9. Services were held at the residence Monday, June 11, at 1 o'clock. Burial was at Oakwoods cemetery.
