QUEER MOTOR CRASH Winnetka Tourist Dodges Runaway Car Wheel Overturning Own Ma- chine in Ditch; Escapes Injury In dodging a large disc wheel which flew off a car approaching at high speed the car which he was driving, Alvar R. Sutter, of 827 Prospect ave- nue, Winnetka, was forced into a ditch at the roadside where his car was turned upside down, making temporary prisoners of the seven passengers. Mr. Sutter, crawling out of the win- dow at the driver's seat, expected to find others pinned in the wreck, seri- ously, if not fatally injured, but all escaped with minor cuts and bruises. The accident occurred near Wal- worth, Wis., Sunday. With Mr. Sutter were his wife and two children and Mrs. H. H. DeClerque, and two chil- dren, of 861 Prospect avenue, Win- netka. Mr. Sutter said he was traveling about thirty miles an hour when he saw the "runaway wheel" hurtled from an approaching car, coming down grade a few hundred yards away. The wheel was keeping well to the center of the road and followed a straight path. This enabled Mr. Sutter to steer his car quickly to the apron siding of the road, which, at the point of turning off the pavement, was wide and level. A few feet further, how- ever, the apron narrowed and there was a ditch. This was what caused the wreck. The substantially built top of his car supported the engine and ma- chinery parts of the machine, a fact that prevented the occupants from be- ing literally crushed in the wreckage. North Shore Youth Wins Honors in Archery Meet In the two-day archery tournament of the state of Illinois and midwestern states held at Washington park, Chi- cago, July 28 and 29, Lowell Comee, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Comee of 1612 Forest avenue, Wilmette, won the junior championship medal and three trophies in various contests. He will enter the national contest August 21 at Westchester-Biltmore, Rye, N. Y. If heavy rafters are provided, trapezes and adjustable rings may be hung and a veritable gymnasium af- forded to the family.
