rr ---- August 4, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 19 ABE ESPINOSA WINS WESTERN OPEN CROWN Farrell Spurts to Take Second Honors From Al Espinosa in Final Round of Play In a field which included practically all the stars of the western country and in addition the national open champion, North Shore golfers covered themselves with glory. The story of this glory is the story of the Western Open championship which was held at the North Shore Golf club on Glen- view road, but the really brilliant para- graphs make the name Espinosa stand out boldly. Farrell Is Second Abe Espinosa, who is professional at the Columbian Club, one of our north shore clubs, was the winner. He won by three strokes, his score being 291 for the double round. Brother Al, who is professional at Illinois G. C., finished third with 295 while in between the two brothers finished Johnny Farrell of the Quaker Ridge club of New York, who is the national open champ- ion, with 294. First and third in a championship event is a wonderful achievement for the Espinosa brothers. Abe picked out the lead in the first two rounds and hung gamely to it to the finish. Brother Al, up to the final round threatened to win or at least be run- ner-up, but in the final round, started to toss away strokes and Farrell, the man who beat the famous Bobby Jones for the National open championship, came along with a spurt which landed him in second place. Hutchison Finishes Tenth Jock Hutchison of Glenview wasn't playing at his best, but at that fin- ished in tenth place. Football Coaching Staff Waldo Fisher, all-conference end on Northwestern's football squad last year, has been added to the football coaching staff for the coming fall Fisher will be assigned to the fresh- man team where he will tutor the end candidates. The varsity staff will consist of the same coaches as last year. Coach Dick Hanley will head the staff and will have Maurey Kent, Jack Ryan, Pat Hanley and Herb Steger as assistants. The latter will confine his activities to coaching the second team. Bob Johnson, Tom Stidham, and Litz Rus- ness will handle the frosh squad in addition to Fisher. Mrs. S. H. Police Warn Villagers of Bogus Photo Deals Winnetka police reported this week the operations of bogus picture-enlarg- ing salesmen who employ the old scheme of taking an order for picture enlargement at a given price and then refuse to deliver the work or return the photograph. In many instances the pictures are highly prized posses- sions and are returned only upon pay- ment of an exorbitant sum. Mrs. A. J. Mitchell, 263 Woodlawn avenue, is leaving next Monday with her two children, Jean and Donald, to drive to Muskoka resort which is north of Toronto, Canada.
