R. Kokatnur of Arlington, N. J., one of the scientists at the Amer- ican Chemical Society institute now in its third week at Northwestern. This compound is organic peroxide, he explains. Northwestern Naval Unit Ranks Highest on Cruise The Northwestern university naval unit of the R. O. T. C. surpassed those from Harvard, Yale and Georgia Tech in making the highest average grade while on the recent summer cruise on the Atlantic ocean aboard the battle- ship Wyoming. Commander S. B. McKinney states that the average of the Northwestern unit was 82.6 com- pared with 80.5 for Harvard, 81.1 for Yale and 74.1 for Georgia Tech. Bearing, discipline and work of the Northwestern unit were regarded highly creditable to the unit. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Ball, III, of 361 Hawthorn lane, and their children, Edward IV and Kathleen, left yester- day to spend a month at Harbor Springs, Mich. Ex-Service Committee to Entertain Veterans The regular monthly meeting of the Ex-Service committee of the Wilmette Woman's club will be held next Mon- day. The committee will again meet at the Green Tea Pot in Highland Park for luncheon after which the committee will go to the Great Lakes hospital and will take twenty men for an automcbile ride. Last Monday, twenty young women of the club and their friends gave a large card party for the men of the naval hospital at the Red Cross house in Great Lakes. After playing cards with the men for an hour and a half, they served refreshments of ice cream, heme made cake, and cigarets to more than one hundred fifty men who were unable to attend the party. Garden Shows to Aid Bannockburn P. T. A. Flower gardeners of Bannockburn, a suburb just north of Deerfield on Telegraph road, will open their grounds to the public this Friday and Saturday from 2 to 6 P. M. The fol- lowing owners' gardens will be open: William T. Aitken, R. W. Farmer, A. W. Torbel, K. F. Fowler and C. C. Brackett. A modest admission fee collected from each visitor will be turned over to the Wilmette school Parent-Teacher association of Deer- field. Play Qualifying Round in Championship Event The second half of the Qualifying round in the Club Championship event will be played at the Wilmette Golf club Saturday of this week. There will also be play in the second round in the Roseman trqphy event, and the final round in the Cunningham cup feature. On Sunday, August 12, there will be a Net-Lo Medal event.
