He is captain of the team this fall, and his return was heralded with warm greeting and with first position in the "Who's Who" column of the school paper, which says: "The 'big Swede," who goes by the name of Howard Lee Winberg, was born in Chicago, Ill, November 5, 1905. There, in the vicinity of Chi- cago, Swede has lived all his life, (this may account for some of his hard- ness) attending grammar school and high school in the suburb of Wilmette. "In high school Howard played foot- ball for three years and (take it from one who knows) it was easier to step aside when the big Swede came through the line. "In the fall of 1926 Howard entered Kemper, arriving two weeks early for football camp at Hollister, Mo. Dur- ing the football season Swede made a never-to-be-forgotten name for him- self in Kemper football annals. In other athletics, as well, he was ex- tremely active, excelling in every sport he entered into, namely, football, box- ing and wrestling.
