New Book on Mortgages Written by Samuel Reep A new book entitled "Second Mort- gages and Land Contracts in Real Estate Financing," by Samuel N. Reep is just out. It covers all the import- ant problems which arise in the financ- ing of real estate and the making of permanent improvements on land. The book describes how second mortgages can be secured to the best advantage; when they can usually be secured; and when they should be discounted. The rights, duties, and liabilities of buyer, seller and broker are clearly outlined. The book also classifies the difference between second mortgages and land contracts. Sharp practices in connection with second mortgage financing are dealt with clearly and at length and much accurate up-to-date information on this subject is given. 42 Apartment Building Sold to M. B. and J. C. Karr Ambrose J. Barker has just sold the 42 apartment building containing 2 and 3 room apartments at 4407-19 N. This aided in bringing the total for the month to $149,500, as against $236,100 in August a year ago. Five of the permits were for new re- sidences costing $105,000; five were alterations, costing $7,000 and a like number were for private garages, costing $2,500. Everett R. Cook is building a nine room residence and attached garage, of stone, at 140 Meadow lane, costing $45,000. A permit was issued to Mr. Boor- man for a two story stone veneer and stucco residence, of 7 rooms, at High street, costing $20,000. A. C. Julian took out permits for two residences on Ash street, each costing $10,000, They are to be two stories, of brick, comprising 7 rooms and attached garage. One will be at number 1228, the other at number 1249. A permit was issued to J. Winter- botham for a two story 7 room resi- dence, of masonry construction, at 1288 Westmoor road, costing $20,000. Fine Home in Kenilworth for Arthur J. Lindsley Outstanding among the many fine homes which are being erected in Kenilworth at this time is the one which R. E. Crosby is building for Arthur J. Lindsley, of Wilmette, at 260 Oxford road. It is of Spanish style, brick construction, with steel casement doors and windows, tile stairways and bath rooms, a most elaborate design throughout.
