This particular story deals with a band of crooks who plan a bank Yobbery, are doubled crossed by an- other crook, and throw the blame on an innocent girl, thereby causing much anguish. Dolores Costello does fairly good dramatic work in the picture. Gus Arnheim and his orchestra and Swor on the vitaphone, and the per- sonal appearance of Edyth Diedrich, authority on health and beauty, are special features of the present Varsity program. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week "State Street Sadie," which also ranks amcng the under- world group, is to be shown at the Varsity. The plot {features Conrad Nagel as the bright boy who plays crook to revenge the death of his brother. Myrna Loy is the girl friend who's really as good as gold but poses as tough little State Street Sadie from Chicago to abet in the gangster's cap- ture. Of course, they win out and win each other. Nagel is excellent. William Russell as chief bad man of the picture is the last word in sinister urbanity and dynamic repression. NORTHWESTERN WEEK Norshore to Have Special Show for Its University Patrons; Richard Barthelmess on Screen Next week will be Northwestern week at the Norshore and the manage- ment of that theater is arranging a special show for its university patrons from Evanston. Al Kvale, the campus clown, will preside over the Jazz Col- legians in a gala stage production en- titled "Hello Northwestern." The Ritz brothers, called the world's funniest collegians, will be there to entertain the college folk. As a spe- cial feature for the week the Norshore management has engaged the Wisner sisters, Northwestern coed songsters. Northwestern week begins this Satur- day, September 29, to end the follow- ing Friday night, which is the regular college night at the Norshore. The screen offering for the week is "Out of the Ruins," with Richard Barthelmess in the leading role. Barthelmess again plays in a story of the war, but one entirely different from "The Patent Leather Kid." He is a French soldier this time, a dashing lieutenant of the "Blue Devils." Be- fore the story is through he has deserted, but it is love, not cowardice, which prompts his act. Opposite the star is Marion Nixon as a young French girl, Yvonne--and a lovely heroine too. This is one of her good performances and it is in a difficult role that demands much emo- tional playing. "Enter Madame" Will Be Given by Graeme Players The Graeme Players, the stock com- pany organization performing at the Alcyon theater in Highland Park, are once more delighting Friday night au- diences at that theater. "The Show Off," with Joe Driscoll in the leading role, was the play scheduled for Fri- day evening of this week. Next Friday, October 5, Miss Sigrid Graeme, director of the Graeme Players, will make her first stage ap- pearance in Highland Park, when she assumes the leading role in the comedy drama. "Enter Madame," with Joe Driscoll playing opposite her. It is an- nounced that this probably will be the only chance for theater-goers to see Miss Graeme perform in Highland Park. There will be no increase in ad- mission prices. The feature picture for the evening will be Harry Langdon in his comedy, "Heart Trouble."
