EL Be or praem-- i. ua October 6, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 9 KENILWORTH SPEEDS UP GYMNASIUM FUND DRIVE Smoothly Functioning Organiza- tion Begins Intensive Solici- tation Campaign Definite and detailed plans for the early completion of the drive for funds for Kenilworth's new memorial gym- nasium were outlined Monday night of this week at a meeting of chairmen, vice-chairmen, and members of teams which are conducting the drive. "We are organized as we have never been organized before," said Walter Botthof, chairman of the drive com- mittee, this week. "Every single resi- dent in the school district who has not subscribed will be solicited." Plan Intensive Drive Under the new plan of organization, Mr. Botthof, chairman of the drive, has five vice-chairmen working with him-- Walter H. Andersen, John K. Byrne, James R. Starr, David Elmgren, and George I. Bell. Each of these vice- chairmen has supervision over five teams of two men each who are re- sponsible for the thorough canvassing of certain blocks in the school dis- trict. Those in charge of the campaign for funds expect to finish it within a month or six weeks. Of the $60,000 needed to complete the new gymnas- ium, $34,000 had been subscribed up to this week, according to Mr. Bott- hof. In the meantime, construction work on the gymnasium is well under way, and part of the roof has already been put on. Board Shows Progress A new bulletin board across the North Shore tracks from the Kenil- worth village hall will keep residents of the village informed of the progress of the drive. The new board will be illuminated at night. Winnetka Football Team Wins Opening Game by 35-0 Score The Winnetka Football team gave the spectators a big dose of the brand of football that they may expect all all season, when they defeated the Chicago Cromwell's last Sunday by a score of 35-0. The visitors, due to a game the day before, were forced to meet the strong Winnetka aggregation in a crippled manner, and were not much of a threat to the local huskies. The game started with Winnetka kicking off to the Cromwells, but the latter were held for downs and forced to punt. After battling in mid-field and exchanging punts, Winnetka got possession of the oval. An end run by Captain Martin, and a couple of line smashes by Lauer and Jackett, put the ball in a place where Martin bucked and pivoted his way to a touch- down. After scoring once more in the second quarter, the locals put their subs into the game and on the first play, Baker added the last scorg of the first half. In the second half Winnetka added two more touchdowns. Coach Doepel had a good chance to see the strong and weak points of his eleven, and a strong aerial attack is promised at the team's next appearance. For next Sunday Manager Belmont has arranged a real treat for the Win- netka followers, when the strong Ev- anston Boltwoods will be here. The Boltwoods have always had a strong eleven, but this year with the addition of the Oakton team to their ranks, they are sure to spell defeat to most, if not all, their opponents. The Bolt- woods have played together for the past five years and they are reputed to have built up a formidable scoring machine. The football team; through its man- ager, E. Belmont, has asked for the support of residents of the village, who are urged to attend all games. MARRIES TODAY Miss Marian Spach, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Amuel B. Spach of 228 Lei- cester road, Kenilworth, will become the bride of Paul Lee Delargy at 6 o'clock this afternoon in the home of her parents.
