The total value of building authorized was $113,800, all but $2800 of which was for the seven new residences. There were two permits for altera- tions, totaling $2200 and one for a garden house costing $600, issued to J. Younglove, of 840 Sheridan road. In comparison with building activi- ties a year ago last month, this Sep- tember shows a slight increase in the number and cost of residences, but not in totals. A year ago a permit for a private stable costing $35,000 re- sulted in swelling the grand total to $120,074, but only $79,700 was for the five residences for which permits were taken out that month. There were four alterations costing $2610 and eight private garages costing $2764. Permits for new residences were issued last month to R. P. McElroy who is building a two story brick and cinder concrete, at 465 Madison ave- nue, costing $12,000. F. A. Cooper, for a two and one- half story brick veneer at 537 Monroe street, costing $20,000. Axel B. Johnson, for a two story brick veneer at 511 Woodlawn ave- nue, costing $18,000. Carl Peterson, for a two story brick on tile at 515 Jackson avenue, costing $14,000. John A. McDermott, for a two story brick, at 76 Crescent drive, costing $20,000. C. E. Brier street which also has been the scene of much building activity during the past twelve months, drew one of the September improvements. The other is on Raleigh road. The total cost of the seven residences for which permits were issued last month is $72,000. There were also two permits for remodeling jobs cost- ing $5700 and two for private garages costing $1500, a total of ten permits for the month representing total im- provements of $79,200. This. it is pointed out, is a good September showing for the smallest village on the north shore, which has, throughout the past summer, been establishing records in the building line. Robert A. Kroschel, A. Abramson and C. A. Hemhill, for H. O. Barnes, are building on Cummings avenue. The Kroschel residence, at No. 707, is a two story brick veneer, with attached garage and costing $14,000; A Abram- son is building a two-story brick veneer at No. 711, costing $11,000 and the Barnes residence is at No. 714. It is a two-story brick veneer, with at- tached garage, costing $14,000. James Crabb is building a $9,000 two-story brick veneer at 647 Brier street. The other permit was issued to W. F. Blades, for E. C. Geither, who is building a two-story brick veneer, with attached garage, at 321 Raleigh road, to cost $24,000. FORM MORTGAGE COUNCIL Councillors on mortgage conditions to be appointed by national division in 635 cities. An executive council to consist of one specialist in real estate finance from each city in which a member real estate board exists is being formed by Mortgage and Finance Division of the National Association of Real Estate Boards. The new executive councillors will give the Association reports from time to time on the mort- gage situation.
