The golden text was, "The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish" (Proverbs 10:28). Among the citations which com- prised the lesson-sermon was the fol- lowing from the Bible: "If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grevious: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 127,11). The lesson-sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scrip- tures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "Love is not hasty to deliver us from temp- tation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified" (p. 22). Mallinckrodt Card Party Pronounced Fine Success The committee of the Mallinckrodt Mothers' club and the students of the high school feel that their efforts to make the card party given last Wed- nesday for the benefit of the building fund, were well rewarded. The affair was pronounced a great success. There were a large number of prizes some of which were presented by Mrs Frank Barry, Mrs. John Hoffman, Mrs. Frank J. Oelrich, and Mrs. George Ludwig. A very attractive spread was made by the Sophomore sewing class. Dr. Maxwell Murphy, '12, of King's Daughters' house, Temple, Texas, traveled the greatest distance to attend the celebration and received a cup in recognition. An "N" blanket to the oldest "N" man present was given to H, R. Howell of Des Moines, Ia.,, who was graduated in 1889. The parade arranged in the return- ing grads' honor was the most spectac- ular the university sororities and fra- ternities have offered in several years. The Sigma Chi's moving portrayal of alumni returning to the university won first cup among the fraternties while Phi Kappa Sigma got second and Aca- cia third.
