Al has been spend- ing the last week as guest conductor at the new Paradise theater on the west side. The screen offering tor the week will be "Two Lovers," ranked among the best by both local and national movie critics. '"T'wo Lovers" is said to be the final co-starring picture of Ronald Col- man and Vilma Banky. It is a fascinat- ing story of princes and lost thrones, of a tyrant's oppression and the spec- tacular feats of a masked swordsman who seems to be always on the spot when a good deed needs doing. The work of Vilma Banky and Ron- ald Colman in "Two Lovers" is smooth, romantic, and pictorially satisfying as usual. The mob scenes are impressive, and sometimes unusual, as when the loyal sons of Flanders go through a swamp up to their teeth in mud to reach the castle and protect their prince. The pic- ture is exceptionally well done every point of view. Mackaill, Mulhall Star in Picture at Varsity Dorothy Mackaill and Jack Mulhall have the principal roles in "Water- front," picture now showing at the Varsity theater in Evanston. Miss Mackaill, as the daughter of a tugboat captain, lives with her {father and grandfather in a house at the end of a pier and young Mr. Mulhall comes along as oiler on a tramp steamer. His courtship of the captain's daughter is tough and heady and much beset with storms and treacherous calms. The lady has a set idea that she wants to live at the sea side. Father and lover, who hate each other cordially at first, bury the hatchet and unite for the pur- pose of making Miss Peggy Ann want what she doesn't want, that is, to set- tle down on a farm. They concoct a truly masculine plan that works out as the picture will show you. "Women They Talk About" will be shown at the Varsity next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The picture has been called "the best talkie yet." It boasts a cast including Irene Rich, Audrey Ferris, William Collier, Jr., and Claude Gillingwater. One of the best things about the picture is Irene Rich's excellent vitaphone voice. Claude Gillingwater proves that an ex- stage actor, though effective on the silent screen, is much more so in a sound film. He gives a charming characterization of an irritable * old gentleman who enjoys his enemies. The picture is well directed. Theater Ticket Service Launched in Evanston The North Shore hotel in Evanston has opened a theater ticket service for north shore residents under the management of Mildred D. Roche. Seats for the big musical comedies, operettas, plays and similar entertainment in the loop and outlying theaters can now be ob- tained in the lobby of the North Shore hotel, or by calling Greenleaf 6684. This will make the Alcyvon the first motion picture house in the north shore villages having sound picture equipment. Meanwhile, the Graeme Players, who continue to delight capacity Friday night audiences at the Alcyon with their excellent presentation of well known plays, will present the youth- ful three-act comedy drama, '"Ma- ma's Boy," with Joe Driscoll in the leading role. The picture for the eve- ning will be Glenn Tryon in the com- edy, "How to Handle Women."
