h y | December 29, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 13 Morton Basketeers Trounce New Trier by Lop-sided Score New Trier's heavyweight basketball team was overwhelmed by Morton, 28 to 4, last Friday, at Cicero, to lose its first suburban league game; but the lights evened things up with a 29 to 24 victory over the, hitherto un- defeated, Maroon and White ponies. Cerny and Lohr stunned the Gray- Green heavies by making baskets for Morton right after the contest started and their team kept the lead all through the one-sided game. The New Trierites put up a great fight, but they couldn't seem to get around the tight Maroon and White defense and their opponents' clever stalling completely gaffled them. The loss of McLain, star forward, whose last report card made him ineligible, made the Gray-Green attack much less effective. Even when they got a chance to bombard the basket the visitors couldn't make any ringers. The Cicero players raced off to a 14 to 2 lead in the first quarter and for the rest of the encounter were able to take their time. New Trier's second team, sent in during the last period by Coach Grater, failed to make Morton pant any more than the vars- ity had. The lightweight battle was a much better game with the score always close and the lead often changing. Fencl gave Morton a good start by sinking the first basket of the game and his teammate, Rubado, gave the home team a 4 to 0 lead. Hart and Captain Saxton each put the ball through the hoop to tie the score, but Morton made a free throw just before the gun and finished the first quarter one point ahead. Two hundred delegates of active chapters from New York to Los Angeles also will attend. The conclave will be called to order by Herman IL. Baskin of New York, national president, Saturday morning. Business sessions during the daytime and social activities at night will fill out the three day program until the convention winds up with a formal New Year's Eve ball Monday night.
