5 3 er December 29, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 5 GOES TO BIGGER JOB Walter McPeek, North Shore Scout Executive, to Accept New Scout Post in Milwaukee January 10 Walter McPeek, Scout Executive for the North Shore Area council, Boy Scouts of America, for the past two years, or since the inception of that organization, will leave January 10 to assume new duties as education direc- tor of the Milwaukee County council, Boy Scouts of America. Simultaneously with the announce- ment of Mr. McPeek's decision to en- ter upon a new field of Scouting work, came the information this week that the North Shore council had retained M. O. Rybolt, for the past four years a member of the staff of Boy Scout di- recting personnel in Kansas City, Mo., to assume the duties of north shore Scout Executive. Mr. McPeek goes to an enlarged and more specialized work in the Scoutine field. He has established an enviable reputation as a leader and organizer on the north shore and was largely responsible for the phenomenal ad- vancement in Scouting interest in this vicinity. His first work on the north shore was the alignment of the various Scout groups in the north shore com- munities under a common council, which effected direct channels of com- munication with the national organiza- tion. Having accomplished this objec- tive, he next launched upon the task of rehabilitating existing Scout units and building new troops, and generally expanding Scout activity. One thou- sand Scouts are under his general supervision as the New Year begins, a fact which, in itself, represents a phase of the astounding development of Scouting in this locality. Mrs. Leon Allen, 258 Melrose ave- nue, Kenilworth, entertained her bridge club at luncheon last Tuesday after- noon, When in Difficulties Just Call Our Firemen Winnetka's fire department serves the village in more ways than one, as incidents of the last week will show. Last Sunday afternoon at about 3:15 o'clock the Ralph Ett- linger family, 440 Elder lane, re- turned home to find themselves locked out of the house. The fire department was called, ladders were raised, the firemen gained an en- trance through a second story win- dow, and then opened the door for the family. On Saturday at the E. R. Lewis residence, 1138 Hampton- dale avenue, a roast caught fire, and there was considerable smoke. Again the firemen were called, but not in time to save the roast. Elm Street Garage to Have New Managment Announcement was made this week that beginning January 1 the Elm Street garage, 718 Elm street, Win- netka, will operate under new man- agement. Roy H. Scherer and Arthur C. Anderson, formerly of the Better Service garage, 715 Oak street, will have charge of the new garage. In- creased automobile repairing busi- ness made necessary a move into larger quarters, according to an an- nouncement appearing in this week's issue of WINNETKA TALK concerning the change. Mr. Scherer and Mr. An- derson have announced that in their new garage they will specialize in Lincoln service and complete automo- bile repairing, as well as washing, polishing, simonizing, and lubricating.
