Miss Mary Kinney, a teacher in the McHenry grade school, left last Friday for Mankato, Minn., where she is spending the 'holiday vacation with home folks. Miss Alice Miller, who is attending the State University at Champaign, is spending the holiday vacation in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Miller. Mr. and Mrs. John Reihansperger and daughter, Mary, and Harvie Johnson of West Chicago are spending Christmas in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. J. Reihansperger, and family. Mrs. Wm. F. Burke left Saturday for a two weeks' visit with her sister at Cleveland, O. Mr. Burke left the same day for a several months' sojourn in Texas, where Mrs. Burke will ;oin him in a few weeks. Mrs. Fred Justen and daughter, Mae," and Miss Rose Justen left last Friday for Jacksonviile, Fla., and other points in the south.' The former two expect to spend about a month in the routh, while Miss Huemann is planning on an all winter's sojourn. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Stenger of this city and Joseph Stenger of Cary passed several days last week at Green Bay, Wis., where they attended a family reunion and at the same time assisted their father, George Stenger, in celebrating, his seventieth birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hunter l^ft last Saturday for Florida, where they are p'ann'ng on spending the next few v eeks. During their stay in the south they expect to Visit a number of the more prominent winter resorts and also some of the smaller lakes and jities. ADDITIONAL EXCHANGE The building which is to house the new village pump has been completed at Gray slake. ' 4 In order to handle the heavy Christmas mail a temporary postoffice was opened in the Gracy building at Crystal Lake last week. Robert C. Uecke, Harvard nurseryman, expects to start on Feb. 5 on a pleasure trip that will take him te South America. He will return the iatter part of April. A total of $4,527.50 was realized at the consignment sale of pure bred catt'e as held on the Falcorn farm near Harvard one day recently. The h'ghest priced cow brought $170. Plans for a new 36x60 addition to the city hall at Woodstock were presented to the city council at its meeting held last Friday night. The present quarters are inadequate and it is quite likely that the proposed addition will be built next spring or summer. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Lynch of Ridgefield celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Dec. 14. Mr. Lynch, for thirty years, held the pfisition of station agent for 'the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad company at Ridgefield, retiring from that position more than a year ago. About a month ago Paul Schultz of Crystal Lake picked up a package on the road between Crystal Lake and Dundee containing, besides some wearing apparel, two drafts for $1400 and $687 and a note for $1250. The owner of the valuables, as learned last week in a telegram, was from Meeker, Colo. A"rnold Tucknott, a teamster of Fox Lake, was committed to the Lake county jail at Waukegan last Saturday on charges preferred by Miss Ida Himmelreich of the Humane society. The Fox Lake man is charged with leaving his teams out in severe cold weather rather than repair" his barn. He had been arrested before on the same charges. According to figures as published in last week's issue of the Woodstock American, it cost McHenry county $14,272 to prosecute liquor cases during the past several weeks. The total amount in fines as paid into the county treasury during this campaign against elicit liquor dispensers was $18,917.80, leaving a balance in favor of the county of $4,644.96. A $10,000 damage suit has been tiled in the Lake county circuit court against Dr. E. F. Schaffer of Grayslake, whose automobile last May struck and so seriously* injured Mrs. Phoebe Wright of Lake Villa that she died from the effects of the accident. The coroner's verdict returned at the time held the d6ctor entirely blameless. The suit was filed by Marion Wright, administrator of the unfortunate woman's estate. The case will be tried during tjie March term of court. Fire of an unknown origin,, but supposedly started from a lighted cigaret or cigar carelessly . thrown upon the floor of the building *by a tramp who had sought refuge therein, totally destroyed the DavRn country school, located about two and one-half miles south of Waucouda^ during last Thursday night. The structure, a one story affair, was an old one and, according to members of the school board, will be replaced by a modern building which will cost something like $6,000. Walworth county, Wis., last year spent $873,000 for better roads by building twenty-six miles of concrete and nearly twenty miles of improved gravel roads. The completion of the concrete work for 1924 raised the mileage of the county up to 125 miles of concrete highway. The longest route thru the county is that of 12, which extends from Genoa City, on the southwest, to Whitewater on the northwest. This continuous strip of concrete highway measures 37% miles. The next longest stretch is route 61, connecting Darien on the west with East Troy on the northeast. This highway is 30% miles in length.
