Mills and family. Frank • Kempfner and son, while coming out from Chicago last Tuesday, met with quite a severe accident on the cement road between here and the city. In passing another car on the slippery pavement the car tipped over, crushing Mr. Kempfner underneath. The son was also hurt some, but not so badly. Mrs. Josephine Frett, While assisting her daughter, Mrs. Ford Jackson, at Spring Grove Friday, meet with a painful and quite serious accident She slipped and fell while in the act of carrying some hot water, scalding her face, neck and body quite hadly. C. -- The Department of Commerce have approved a 'people's plumbing code" with the hope that it may be adopted by states and municipalities, it was announced. The bill is for the protection of the public "from insanitary plumbing, the use of defective and cheap material and improper installation." The code was prepared by a special committee appointed by Secretan' Hoover and headed by William C. Groeniger of Cleveland. In Harvard last Thursday. W. H. Ames and M. Knox spent Thursday of last week in Harvard. The pupils from this vicinity who attend McHenry and Crystal Lake high schools are enjoying a two weeks' vacation. Howard V. Phalin, who is attending the University of Notre Dame, Is spending his Christmas vacation at his heme here. Robert V. Knox, who is a student at the University of Notre Dame, arrived home Thursday evening to spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Knox, Miss Eleanor Phalin, who has been in Kansas City for the past few months, arrived home Wednesday of this week to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Phalin. Mrs. Hoppe and son, Arthur, arrived home Sunday from their trip to Mobile, Alabama, having been gone just three weeks. We were horrified to read the news of the tragic death ofo Vera Thompson Bosshard. She was born here and lived a few short years on the farm now owned by the Hoppe family before moving to Woodstock with her parents. She was borti Nov. 28, 189o. Last week Wednesday we were treated to a sleet storm, which covered all walks, back porches and the ground with a slippery coating. On Thursday a little moisture came and some coarse snow that made it possible to travel. Today, Monday, the sun hasn't ^ione enough to soften the crust. Word came over the wire last Friday night ttfat Gus Rossman's house was on fire and help was needed. Sev eral hurried to the scene .and found that one of the boys had attempted to draw gasoline from a large 100 gallon tank with a lighted lantern near. He spilled some and the rest went up in a blaze.
