The local fire department answered a call to the Chris Blake home, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Kent on Green street about 8:15 o'clock on Tuesday morning of this week. The fire, which started on the roof and was probably caused from a chimney spark, was extinguished before much damage resulted. The response of the department was very prompt and effective. Thru the efforts of the newly organized Centerville Business Men's association, the business section ot Green street is now illuminated by means of four 600-candle power lights. The added voltage makes a very good improvement and needless to say is appreciated by the public in general. The extra cost for energy consumption will be borne by the Centerville organization. WALSH Phone 117-R Goods Delivered Joe Gerretsen, 22,' Fox Lake, and Roy Buenting, 25, Chicago, were ordered held over to the next term of the Kane county grand jury under $5,000 bonds each by Police Magistrate George R. Thompson at Elgin last week Wednesday, when the pair confessed to the theft of Charles Mann's Buick automobile on the night of March 10. The confessed thieves were returned to Elgin Saturday afternoon by Mayor Earle R. Kelley, City Marshal Frank Ramsey and Officer Kult, following their arrest in Indianapolis last Wednesday. The two were arrested by Indianapolis authorities when they attempted to place the car in storage in an Indianapolis garage. Mann's car was stolen from in front of the First Methodist church at Elgin. When arraigned both men pleaded guilty and waived examination. We borrowed a car in Chicago to go to Elgin," Gerretsen said in his confession. "We intended to go to Elgin to buy an old Ford from a junk man. We left in an intoxicated condition, had a pint of moonshine in the car. We went to see the Ford but it was gone and we rode about the business district. I got out of our car, walked to the Buick car, we saw parked by a church, and drove off with it." According to Gerretsen's confession, he drove the stolen car north to McHenry and then to Chicago, where he met Buenting at a specified street intersection. They continued their flight to Indianapolis, arriving there on the noon of March 11. They left the car in a prairie two nights and when they went to store it in a garage were arrested* Insure--in sure--insurance with Wm. G. Schreiner. Office at residence.
