Anderson, Superintendent of the Anti-Saloon Leagne, gave out the following signed statement: The report that the Anti-Saloon Leagtie has "compromised" or has ac­ cepted as satisfactory the elimination of the county and precinct features from the Local Option Bill is unwarrant­ ed and untrue. Equally unfounded is the statement' that, we entertain doubts as to the ultimate passage of the bill. Certain members of the Judiciary Committee who say they are for the Anti-Saloon Leagne bill with the coun­ ty and precinct features eliminated have nndei taken to give- assurances that the Senate would concur in House amendments. To these gentlemen we proposed that they prove it by securing the passage of the original bill with the county and precinct leatures out and the referendum off, and prepared such a bill for them as a test. On April 7th they undertook to do so. When after five days this substitute did not appear in the Senate, and the Whole question was put off another week, the League had the test, substi­ tute introduced - by Senator Parker as an amendment to the Townsend bill, Senate Bill 338, which is objectionable to temperance people t.houghout the State.'.:/.; 1 - The League is not asking the Senate to pass any substitutes. It is the op­ position to Senate Bill 95, which is ask­ ing something else of the Senate. The League will not press this test substi­ tute except as against other substitutes, but prepared it and later introduced it for the sole purpose of proving the soundness of its position that the only course consistent with reasonable prob­ ability of getting any local option legis­ lation is the passage by the House of Senate,Bill 95 without amendment.
