Sept. 14. 13 noon during the water carnival which was held at the lake recently, W. H. McQuestion, the Chicago aviator, who was booked to make (lights over the water in his hydro­ plane, was racing with Oscar Johnson, the latter l»eing in his .speedy motor- boat, Madam Sherry. They were well down the lake and the lace was most exciting. The hydroplane WJIS above the water and making good time, a little in the lead of Johnson's water craft. All of a suddeu the crowd which watched the thril ' ing race saw the hydroplane ciirreen to one side and dash into the water, carrying McQues­ tion with it under the water. Johnson saw the plane fall and he did not lose an instant's time to turn his boat in the direction where his competitor fell and when- he could see him struggling in the water. It did not take the speedy motor boat long to reach Mct^uestion's side and he was pulled into the boat just in the nick of time to save him from being drawn under the water in his wreckage. They then tied a rope to the l»oat and the hydroplane was pulled ashore where it was looked at by hundreds who hastened to go to the point where it was taken to shore.
