That doesn't apply to St. IHttrk&'-sDay or the day after. All holidays had a special significance to us in our youth, but none left us with the wonderment of the joy in our Dad's heart as he made a stab at singing "The Hat Me Father Wore" early St. Patrick's morning. pound of luck. If you wish to tire people, talk about yourself. If you wish to rest (hem let them talk about themselves. The pros and cons of the issue can mean propriety or confusion. ANONYMOUS We've heard tell that the Irish ttv more than their hats on St. Patrick's Day. But, of cours§, that couldn't happen around here.^ It's a rough life for some people! A copy of the Fairhope Courier tells us that the Fred Heides and Hal Bordwells are guests of thje Grand Hotel, on beautiful Mobile Bay. Point Clear Alabama. Enclosed is a map showing us how to reach this beautiful vacation spot. Yeah. If our grapevine information is # correct. Fred is down there to 'brush up on his golf game. Watch him burn up the course when the home club opens. Which reminds us that our Mc- Henry Country Club Pro, "Doc", and yours truly made a pact some time during the winter to promote a golf column. They have been started before, but fell by the waysltfe for one reason or another. Frank Holt tells us that Bopp's Tavern bowling team of Harvard Is leading the big county tournament being rolled at Crystal lake. Bopp's bopped 'em at a 2985 clip. Townsend's of Woodstock hit 2900 on the head. Norsemen's of McHenry turned in a 2710 score while the Sportsmen's gang hit 2704. The tournament rolls on. More about it later. Elgin didn't rate in the various polls, but went right ahead to win the regional and sectional meets. They must have something. Maybe not enough for the top spot, but enough to come close. This is news: Doctor Chamberltai ltd not plaa to attrind the state tournament. --And Howard Wattles took a long trip after his favorite Crystal Lake five faded in the regional. A headline on the Forester basketball tournament got lost last week. The big game won the title three years a-runnin' and we wanted the world to know about it. OUTDOOR HINTS To clean the cork handle on that favorite fishing rod, simply rub the cork gently with a fine steel wool. Done once a year thi« will keep the handle in tip top shape. Old fishing flies that are dirty and bedraggled can be restored by steaming them over a teakettle spout with a tweezers. . Minnows can be kept alive longer transporting if six or eight drops of iodine are placerd in the^ water as soon as they Bhow signs of distress due to lack of oxygen.
