Brandon of Batavia, has been named district chairman for the 1951 Crusade for Freedom in DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, McHenry and Boone counties. Brandon, twice a state public welface director and long active in Loyal Order of Moose affairs, asked residents of the district to volunteer their services in the drive for signatures on "freedom scrolls" and for contributions to help support Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Asia, the American- backed voices of freedom beamed at the iron icurtain countries. . This year's Crusade is the first opportunity Illinoisans have had to participate in an organised "freedom" drive. In 1950, the Crusade was climaxed by Gen. Lucius Clay's presentation of the Free dom Bell to the citizens of West Berlin. That campaign also secured some $1.3 millions, whicfa financed construction of a high-powered radio transmitter now broadcast ing to Czechoslovakia, fighting Communist propaganda through the voices of patriotic Czech exiles.
