Or better still, we have given him a seeing eye dog, since whatever man's need the animal kingdom has helped always to supply it Milk for food, wool for clothing, muscle for pulling wagon or sled--in one way after another the "creatures" have answered to man'a dominion. No law man-made can militate for kindness. No decree of state can enforce compassion or mercy or justicfe. But the greatness in every human heart, once awakened, will spontaneously recogniie the eternal values and atrive to uphold them. There are those who say that iq times such as these man has all he can do to look oat for himself. War, dope Be-Ufag to children, moral corruption, economic insecurity--all these mail must face and try to conquer. Yet all man's problems are baaed in the struggle of part against part. If men once perceive that each factor is part of the whole and that one life pervades that whole, then justice and mercy mttst be for all that lives, without exception. Oct 4 is this year, as usual, called World Day for Animals and celebrated as the birthday of St. Francis of Asslsi, who Wa8 actively awai/ of the unity of life, serving leper and bird with equal tenderness. On that day, which is set apart for animals. GET TWICE THE HEAT!
