Jan. 2--The community was shocked by the unexpected death of John J. Vycital, 73, local business man since 1906. The same *day Raymond Dovvell was killed when his auto struck idy pavement and turned over near Danville, 111. The family was enroute to Florida. Jan. 8--William Dettmer died at the Hartland hospital after a nine months' illness. He was 73. February 22--Infant Eugene Nicholas Kcgers, 4 weeks old, ^of Pistakee Bay, died of pneumonia. February 25--Mrs. Ida D. Mix, 79, who had resided here for short periods of time in recent years, died in Woodstock. February 27--A lingering illness ended in the death of Mrs. William Rochelle, 57, of McCullom Lake. March 4--Ruby A. Bucher, 44, died at her home at Volo after a lingering illness. March 5--The first drowning of the year in Fox River took the life' of Larry Pillar, 2%, who fell from the pier onto the ice and broke through near his family's home in Sunset View subdivision. March 7--Mrs. Ada G. Smith, 92, a civic leader in the early days of McHenry's history, died at her home in Elgin. March 14--M i s s Katherine Weber, 74, suffered a fatal heart attack while attending lenten services at St. Mary's church. The same day death claimed William Sullivan, who died at Hines hospital. Adolph Sawisch, 58, die'd in an auto-truck crash near Arlington Heights. March 15--Stanley Wright, 94, ine of the city's oldest residents, died in a rest home at Dundee. March 18rr-A. long period of poor health ended in the death of Adolph Gieshen, 74, of the Country Club subdivision. March 21--Mrs. Anna Lester Colby, 92, of Clifton, 111., was buried in Woodland cemetery, j, March 27--Frank Groell of the Ringwood vicinity died at the age of 30 after an illness of six months. March 29--Gary Grasser, 8- day-old son of the Francis Grassers, passed away in the Woodstock hospital. March 31--Michael G. Schaffer, 66, of Crystal Lake, who lived his early life here, died following a long illness. April 4--Ringwcod lost one of its most respected residents in the death of Samuel William Smith, 91. The same day death claimcd the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Krein, Jr., (Dorothy Smith) of Woodstock. The infant was a great-grandson of Mr. Smith. April 6--Death claimed, Mrs. William N. Freund of Johnsburg at the age of 77. April 8--Russel Peterson of Pistakee Bay died. April 10--Services were held in Chicago for Harry McKinlay of Oak Park, a summer resident of Hickory Grange subdivision, McHenry. April 16--Frank R. Holly, 88, who lived his early life here, died in Lake Geneva, Wis. April 17--Fred W. Kamholz, 39, died unexpectedly at his home on Main street. The same day, Dr. Berendt Hendrickson, 72, a Chicago physician for forty years, died at his Wonder Lake home. April 19--RicTfttrd Harrison, 4, died of injuries Spurred when he became caught in the blades of a manure spreader on which he was riding. The same day, Jacob Stadtfeld, 76, of Round Lake, a former Volo businessman, died. April 20--Charlie Coates, a former resident of the Ringwood area, died at the age of 70 in Marsfield, Wis., but was returned here for burial. Joseph J. Wiser, 74, passed away unexpectedly at his home at Volo. April 21--McHenry lost -its oldest professional man. Dr. Rollo G. Chamberlin, who had practiced here for fifty years. Services wrfe held in Chicago that same day for Walter Hill, late of McHenry. April 22--Joseph J. Lawrence, 68, died fit a heart^ttack while returning home from a visit to the doctor. April 24--Mrs. Mary O'Connell. a native of McHenry, died in Elgin. April "27--Death claimed Margaret Payne, a former resident, in Gary, Ind., and James J. Galin the home of McHenry relatives, died after a short illness. May 18--Death claimed Mrs. Olive Mae Lockwood, 80, of the Crystal Lake community. May 19--Mrs. Caroline Jankovich, 83, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Otto Klemm, in Volo. • ' . VanDenburgh, who had his chiropractic office in McHenry a few years previous, died suddenly in Winter Park, Fla. Earlier in the day, Albert Regnier, 68. a summer resident of Johnsburg, passed away following a heart attack. May 29--A Chicago woman, Mrs. Gertrude Tomkins, 52, died as the result of a head-on collision on Rt. 31, south of McHenry. Death also took Albert J. Justen, 13, a former resident. June 2--Sharon Lee Paulson, 6, who resided on a farm south of the city, died of injuries suffered when the wheels of a pickup truck passed over her body in an accident on the Paulson farm. . Hampton, 28, colored, lost his life when he slipped and fell into the water near the dam. Later that same day, Mrs. Louise Pauhl, 61. of Chicago, drowned at Meyers Bay, Pistakee Lake, when the boat capsized in a sudden squall. June 9--Philip Huffman, 72, who resided near Terra Cotta for many years, died in Crystal Lake. The same day, Mrs. John Meehan, the former Irene Conway, died in Jacksonville, Fla. June 10--Last rites were held from Holy Name Cathedral, Chicago, for Martin Ignatius Driscoll, 72. June 20--The Johnsburg community was saddened by the death of Mrs. John P. Schaefer, 75. Freislinger of Pistakee Bay died in a Chicago hospital a few hours after being stricken with a heart attack in extreme heat as he was about to board a train for McHenry. He was 61. July 20--William Heaney, who was married to the late Lola Aylward of McHenry, died in Jacksonville, Fla. July 25--Fred Feltz, 74, a local resident for almost three quarters of a century, died of % heart attack. July 26--Gilbert Burnett, 86, a lifelong resident of this area, died after a short illness. He lived at Island Lake. July 29--A heart attack proved fatal to Frank Nell, 48, at one time operator of Nell's pavilion in Johnsburg. X... August 6--Edward J. Timm. 73, died at the Villa Resort after a long period of poor health. August 8--Col. B. B. Smith, who impersonated General*UgJftSenhower in Europe during the war, died of a heart attack in Miami. He formerly made his home in McHenry. Death claimed Joseph J. Frisa, 61, of McCullom Lake. August 12--Vincent Schiavone, 63, died. He was a resident of Lakemoor for twelve years. August 16--George Vales, 35, died after a short illness in Colorado. August 26--Mrs. Axelia Keerberg, 38, died at her home on the Pistakee Bay blacktop road after a Jong illness. August 28 -- Death claimed Charles Mertes, 56, who operated the Oak Park hotel for a number of years. August 30--Mathilda Barnas, 74, of Emerald Park, died unexpectedly in Waukegan at the home of a son. August 31--Ben A. Connor died unexpectedly at his home at the age of 54. Sept. 6--Death claimed Bruce Alan Freund, 2 year old, who died of cancer, and LeRoy M. Neal, 68, who passed away after a long illness. Sept. 8--MiSs Mary A. Kennealy, 80, a native of McHenry, died in Elgin. Sept. 10--Rites were held in Lake Geneva, Wis., for Jerome H. Boyke, a resident of Lily Lake about fifteen years ago. Widhalm, 50, of near Johnsburg after a long illness. Oct. 8--Mrs. Helen .Mertes, 83, who with her husband operated Ihe Oak Park hotel for thirty years, died after a brief illness. Oct. 11--Death claimed William McLaughlin, 78. of Dows, Iowa, and William Dailey, 82, of Greenwood. Oct. 17--Mrs. Bertha Kramer of Wonder Lake died after a six months' illness.
