Stephanie, Waynne. Lenore Cooley and Mary Harvey are helping to decide on the best posteis. O u r P o p p y c h a i r m a n , R u t h Mraschek, is head ever heels in preparations for making this Poppy day (May S3) the most --Successful * one ever. She will have^the help of most of our i^embers in launching this campaign. Plans are already formulating for "covering" the city with poppy venders. Wonder Lake News By Vanesse Sella •*" Have Fire District By a vote of 244 to one, the Wonder Lakers voted to have their own firq district last Tuesday. The new district is already in operaticn, according to Supervisor Carl Hallstrom, but the county judge must appoint directors dor the district. The tax fur the district will be in ^ffect next year. There was a total of 278 votes cast but 33 cf the ballots were spoiled by jbeople who think the word "yes" in a box is % vote. The distinct will be formed of the area which forms precinct No. 5 in McHenry township and includes Sections 6, 7, 18 and 19, and parts of 5. 8 and 17, The area is "on both sidesvof Wi nder Lake. . „ . ' • . " Judges in the election were Cecil M. Moyer, JJohn Hiffman and Albert Piker and clerks weie Pellam Woodward, Dorothy Yok- Jey and Lottie Hallstrom. , Wonder Lake has been a part of the McHenry fire district and has been paying .045 on each $100 assessed valuation. A group of Wonder Lake men formed a volunteer fire department a few years ago and various citizens have been paying $2 per house for membership. A fire house wjis built with bonds purchased by local people and a new truck was recently purchased from dues money. • John Feyerer is thief of the Wonder Like fire department. Junior Theatre jOuifd A group of Wonder Lake young people are members of the Junior Theatre Guild of McHenry county and are busy on committees helping to get ready for the first play, scheduled for the weekend , of June 13. Those who are members are Nancy Swanson,. co-chairman Of the group; Peter Bastian, Judy Bastian, Tom Holochwost, Betty Holochwost and Arthur Frenssen. The plays will be given in a barn theatre on the Chicory'Hill farm on Davis road near Woodstock. The young group is sponsored by the McHenry County Theatre Guild and meets each Sunday at the barn at 2:30 p.m. All high school students and college students in the county are invited to become members. There will be a number of plays given through the summer. and will probably be taking it •easy for some time. Seems a local woman was having her blood pressure taken and it was too low-to give blood.
