Walfer Durrenburg an3 son moved into /their new home in Jak-Ana Heights from the Hetmann house on Main street. As the Durrenbergs were moving' cut, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith and son were moving ia having purchased the house. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Matzger of McHenry purchased the Smith home In Sunnyside Estates, and, they also moved in Friday. On Monday evening, April 27, the Johnsburg P.T.A. held their monthly meeting. The seventh grade mothers were hostesses for -t£e evening. There were fortytfrree members present for the meeting. Sister Elsa was awarded the attendance prize. Mrs. Fred Svoboda, district director, Was there to give a talk on the P.T.A. convention she attended in Peoria. At the end of the discussion t^ie seventh grade motherj served a lunch to all those present. The next P.T.A. meeting will be.held on Tuesday evening, May 26. Nancy Kay, 7-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Miller, underwent an appendectomy last Friday. Little Miss Miller returned home from St. Therese hospital on Sunday and is ie- , ported to be feeling pretty chipper. Last Thursday evening the ladies of the Thursday night bowling league held their banquet at the Wing and Fin club. After a delicious dinner, a meeting and election of officers were held. Those elected into offices were: President, Betty Hettermann; v i c e - p r e s i d e n t , D o l l y Schmitt; secretary, Bonnie Meyers; treasurer, Diane Neiss, sergeant-at-arms, Pat Frisby. A meeting will be held sometime in late summer to determine the starting night of the league next fall.' Mrs. Lil Boessler would like to thank all her many friends for cards and the prayers she received while confined to the Lake Fcrest hospit.l. Mrs. Boessler is-norar recuperating at her home. * Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thomas, Tfrs. Helen Hettermann and Mrs. Mary Hettermann were in Eaion Rapids, Mich., on' Sunday to visit b veterans' project. The trip was fabth interesting and enjoyable and was sponsored by the V. I*. W. Mr. and Mrs. Don Michela, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dehn, Dolores Michels and Shirley Huff attended the first anniversary party of • the Buckhorn lodge in Carpentersville on Saturday. The Buckhorn lodge is owned by Tony Ofrtel, who is well known, in this vicinity, having been born And raised in McHenry. Misses Henrietta und Ethel Nell returned home early Sunday morning after a long winter's vacation in Florida. Henrietta and Ethel are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Henrgr Nell, Br., o^ Sunnyside Beach. The first ball game of the season was played here last Sunday afternoon. Although the game was foifeited to Johnsburg because of lack of a full team with uniforms, it was played with substitutes. The game left Johnsburg on U)% short end of a 4 to 3 game mtjfc Spring Grove. Next Sunday's game will be at Lord's Park in \Elgin with the Elgin V. F. W. playing hoet to the Johnsburg Tige A reminder once more to get your tickets for next Saturday's dance given by the Johnsburg Tigers -at the Community Club hall. The display consists of about eight large beautiful pieces, including a lovely drafting table and stool, a cedar toy chest slhd a bookcase. Ron says he enjoys the work very much. Some pieces! were made at heme. •„ Librarians Meet In a hiieeting last Monday, the student librarians decided what to-- do with the funds taken in this year. Other ideas were suggested, but they finally agreed to have dinner in Evanston and later see a play at the Show Case theatre there. Friday, May 22, has been chosen, and one swell time should be had by all. We might add that the librarian club is the only service club in our school, and we appreciate what they have done this year. As a result of tests taken when they weie Juniors, the class ranks in the upper one-fourth of all the schools of the State who participated in these tests. F» H. A. Banquet To Be Held The date for the motherdaughter installation tea has finally been set for May 12 at 7:30 p.m. Ther^yill be light refreshments ana®1 entertainment. F. H. A. girls, who have made their own clothing will model at the tea. The club has decided to have nine officers for next year. The new offices to b^ filled are publicity, Projects degrees and recreation. | Comptometer Demonstration ] Given Mond&y morning during second period, the bookkeeping and typing classes were honored by the presence of Miss Schaaf, who gave a talk and demonstrated the comptometer. For those of you who don't know, the comptometer is a machine that adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides. MOOSE LODGE /• by • H. Rodenkired _ * • • Our grand opening party of last Saturday evening went over with a bang, as those in attendance will agree. The walls were really bulging. I think the lodge owes the women's chapter a vote of thanks for the wonderful "feed" they put on. Agree? A correction. from what was stated last week. The women's chapter will be formally installed on May 24 at 2 p.m. instead of the third Tuesday as was first planned. The committees have bean formed for the coming year and it is the hope of the governor that they will all be very active as it is only with their help the McHenry Ledge 691 will continue to giow and prosper as it has in itrf almost one year of existence. The ceremony will take place at the company's showroom, 104 E. Pearl street, McHenry, $nd will be the first of a series of daily visits by groups to be invited throughout the month among civic organizations and schools. Samsel & Meersman said the activity was originated by Packard Motor Car company's product planning committee under a new program that has brought a wide range of new- features to its two new lines Of cars, and which seeks to spotlight important features for cars of the future. Visitors to the showroom will be" asked to name the feature most appealing to them, write their reason on a card and leave it at the dealership. Following ,'onclusion of the survey, June 9, the twenty-five persons whose cards show the keenest analysis of the features they have chosen n the national competition will each be given a new car in apreciation of his efforts. These youngsters are temporarily homeless - the result of illness, desertion, separation or other unhappy "reasons. In an attempt to provide these children--ranging in "age from infants of a few months to adolescents in their teens--with the necessities and joys of normal family life. Catholic Charities of Elpin is making an appeal for additional foster homes. "The demand for that precious commodity-- family love and understanding - is greater than the present supply," Reverend' Michael ,T. Shanalhan, director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rockford, Inc.. stated. "True, many unselfish couples, both with and without children, are participating in our program, but we need still more qualified foster homes."
