PagsFtot STATE ACCEPTS FOOR NATIONAL 4-H PROGRAMS Awards have been changed in three of the four national 4-H programs announced last week for 1954 by the state 4-H club office. These changes are pointed toward standardizing county awards at four in each program. In the 4-H" clothing program, four (formerly one) gold-filled medals of honor will be provided • for winners in qualifying counties toy the donor, Cats & Clark, Inc. As in the* past, the state winner will receive an all-expense trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. Also, twelve state winners selected for national awards will each receive a $300 college scholarship. Instead of five sterling silver medals awards to county winners in the 4-H poultry program, four gold-filled medals will be provided this year by the Tractor and Implement Division of Ford Motor Co. Awards of an allexpense trip to the National 4-H Club Congress for state winners and $300, college scholarships to lo national winners • remain unchanged. In the 4-H tractor maintenance program, the Standard Oil Foundation, Inc. (Chicago) will provide four gold-filled instead of sterling silver medals of honor as count j' awards. As in the past, the state winner will receive an all-expense trip to the National 4-H Club Congress. National awards, however, have been increased from eight to twelve college scholarships of $300 each. * Awards in / the 4-H garden program, which are provided by Allis-Chalmers, remain the same as last year -- four gold-filled medals of honor, an all-expense trip to the National 4-H Club Congress and eight $300 college scholarships to county, state and national .winners, respectively. Robert Vaughn of McHenry reported he was travelling easV on the highway when he suddenly came on a car which was parked across the highway. He was unable to stop and the machines collided. The mystery car,, "without lights, took off in a westerly direction. Part of the license number was obtained. Damage to the Vaughn car, according to police, . was* about $200. The Dlinois Epilepsy League, embarking on an intensified program of service for an estimated 80,000 persons in the state who are afflicted with this disorder, has named Miss Gertrude Rabinovitch as executive director. The announcement was made by Peter Miller, newspaper publisher and president of the organization. Miss Rabinovitch participated in the establishment of ?ne of the earliest special clinics for the treatment of epilepsy. Her < nthusiasm for the opportunities presented by the Illinois Epilepsy League has been a great stimulus to those who have met her." In a recent preliminary report issued by the American League Against Epilepsy, an organization of physicians working on this problem, it wai pointed out that ii* the entire State of Illinois there are only 12 clinics where treatment may be had, eleven of them centered in Chicago. John Larson has replaced William Andrews as Scoutmaster. While Mr. Larson is attending a Scoutmaster training school at Woodstock, Walter Aufrecht is supervising the troop. Senior Patrol Leader Mark Vycital called the meeting to order. The Apache patrol, with Tom Olsen patrol leader, opened the meeting With the flag ceremony. The patrols then held their pa^ trol corner meetings to take attendance and collect dues. The Scouts were given a special treat two movies. One was on rubber making and the other on / the fundamentals of playing /baseball. Scout Dick Johnstoni operated the movie projector. J The closing ceremony was performed b* the Apache patrol. Troop 161 Is composed of six patrols, Apache, Python, Flaming Arrow, Panther, Whipporwill and Warhawk. At present. about 33 boys comprise the troap but more are expected to join.
