They say the show must go "on, but last week the roof fell in on us again in the way of illness so there was nothing to do but take a week off and give you readers a rest. Having had a little time to watch TV programs^j»e<^ree that the time has come to filter the commercials. And those political speeches! We are waiting to hear one wWere the theme is not based on knocking the other fellow. We' must have some gosh-awful people running for office in this country. That is, if we were to believe what we hear. 33 We have a little note that tells us about Vivian Smith bowling a 624 series (226-204- 194) with the T.N.T. girls in Johnsburg. That's the kind of a score a girl might dream about, but never gain. £ Now, that leads us to go i. back over the trail of the past £ few weeks to see just who hit 'g those high scores. Would you a secretaries do us a little fag vor. Just for one week write X down the first names as well •jf as the last names of each ~ bowler. We know most of 3, them, but would like a - com- « plete list. Just list the full 2 names for one week. We thank I you- Fidel says you cannot take your dog or cigar out of Cuba. We might hate to leave a good dog, but some of those cigars wouldn't be too hard to leave behind. Why not let the Russians give their money to foreign countries so they won't have any friends either? Why is it so many water boys can dash to the center of the field much faster than a fleet half back? He's a grandfather! This expansion of major league baseball raises many questions. Try and name a team that doesnt have weak spots. Some have been trying for years to plug certain weaknesses. It would seem like the class is going to spread thinner and the brand of baseball lowered a notch. The good part of the idea is that more good ball players will get a chance to show that they are great ball players. JE On Friday night of this week 2 the strong Libertyville football team comes to McHenry for £ the last game of the season. x, Dundee stunned the Warriors last week by taking ad- •2 vantage of fumbles and scoring £ 21 points so fast in the third i; period that one can hardly be- 5 lieve it happened. We hear the Warriors are so "mad" at themselves since losing to Dundee that they will be tough homlbres to handle in this final game. The MCHS basketball season starts November 18th with -Grant coming to McHenry. Wrestling starts November "22nd at Warren. Cross Country conference meet is on today (Thurrday) at Crystal Lake. Seasons are moving along fast. Do your Christmas shopping early. 3 We had to say yes, of course. ; In fact the rights of women t to vote were settled some I years ago in this country. * It reminded us of a query s which our mother put to our ; dad (a strong Republican) * when a certain woman was » nominated for a place in Cqn- * gress by the Republican Party : -Mom had a twinkle in her ; eye when she asked, "Are you : going to vote for Mrs. So and 5 So?" 1 It was a quick answer, "No 2 And I'm not going to vote for " any other d women." Of course, that was many yeaTs ago when men were old fashioned enough to think they could run the country, and women belonged in the home Today we have a more moderate view. However, we have thought of an idea that might work. Let's not mix the men and women in office. Let the women run the country for four years, then let the men take a crack at it the next four years. It came like a bombshell when we were recently asked if we "believe in women in politics". When you buy something for a song there's usually a crescendo. The McHenry Warriors suddenly found themselves trailing 21, to 12 after the Dundee Cardunals capitalized on three consecutive Warrior fumbles here last Friday night. In the first quarter Ron Freund climaxed the five play seventy-four yard drive by a 16 yard run. In the second quarter Ed Samen intercepted a Dundee pass and sprinted 42 yards for the touchdown. Receiving again, the Warriors fumbled and a Cardunal picked up the loose ball and ran to the six yard line before being tackled. On the next play they made the touchdown. The Hurricanes last week whipped St. Mary's of Burlington, 26-6, to gain some revenge for the 53-6 setback a year ago. At the same time, Coach Tom Parsley's club captured its third win in seven starts and its second win in a row. This will be the first time the Hurricanes have played the Beloit school. Beloit lost " to St. Thomas, 31-14, while Marian bowed to the Rockford school, 30-20. Marian's two quarterbacks, Mike Purvey and Bill Riley, teamed to give the Hurricanes a good offense, but injuries suffered on defense may sideline Purvey and also Mike O'Leary, defensive wingback. Purvey was out several games with an injury and the St. Francis of Wheaton game on Oct. 22 was his first start since the opener. i Ed Crowley, Marian's sophotfiore ""end, scored t touchdowns-- the first on the recovery of a fumble. Purvey passed 25 yards to Crowley for the second touchdown. Bill Riley led the team to the third touchdown, climaxing a feOyard drive with a two-yard plunge. Riley then passed;:25 yards to Crowley for the ffhal score. Week after week, Marian Central's defense has been anchored by an aggressive, spb> ited leader, Tom Harding. Harding, playing regularly for the third season, has averaged 13 tackles a game. He plays center on offense and linebacker on defense. Earlier this year he was a defensive end and opposing quarterbacks paid him a high compliment by almost never calling plays around the end he was guarding. The 6-foot, 198-pound senior is a top college prospect, Coach Tom Parsley said this week as the Hurricanes prepared for Beloit Catholic. Last year his teammates chose Harding as the squad's most valuable player. With his work this year he will be a contender for the honor again, an award given each year by the Veterans of For eign Wars to recognize outstanding athletic and leadership ability. After this week Marian has games remaining with Hiawatha of Kirkland at Woodstock on Nov. 11 and at Notre Dame of Niles on Nov. 19.
