REDWINGS LOSE TO VIKINGS IN HOCKEY GAME V: Our Redwings hockey team &ot off to a bad start in their ' first game. They lost to the ' Vikings 9-6. The Vikings scored five goals in the first period. The Redwings slowly caught up--so watch our boys go-- that was. only the beginning! They Won their second game against the Rangers 6-2. Dave Smith of the Redwings came up with a hat-trick (three goals in .one game)0 and one goal each " was scored by Mike Mecko, " Jim Farley and Dave Zeiger. Goalie, Jim Herman, did a good job in the nets. The team had hoped .to make up games during the holiday weekend--but the inclement weather sure played havoc with the hockey " players, ice skaters and a lot of other activities that are nonnaly prevalent at this time of the year. £heer up, gang, the holiday weather was just a brief interlude! Holiday Happenings Grandma Davis from Chicago came out on Wednesday before Christmas to spend the holidays with son, Jack, and family. Cathy Davis spent Christmas weekend with her Aunt Eleanor in Brookfield. John Davis and Bob Kelso came up with a sporting idea for the New Years weekend--^challenging Bob's brother, Johnny, (who is home on leave from the Navy) to a shooting match in Meadowdale rifle range. I wonder who Won out as Expert- Rifleman! ' Pat and Matt Bott and family spent Christmas day with Pat's sister, Lorraine Niemann, and family in Chicago. They stayed all night and returned home Saturday morning. A good time was had by all -- especially the children. The only dampening spirit for mother and dad was having to change clothes and get back in the working-Swing again. The Joe Martinez family spent Christmas day and New Years day in Northlake with Connie's mother, Ada Cheatam. A wonderful time was also enjqyed by Connie's brothers, Tom; Kenneth and Ronald Cheatham, ana- their families, and sister^Gloria. What nicer holidays could one have than all being together with "Mom". . To Marge and Herb Fischer Santa Claus came--not with a jtoy or even a game. But, what to their wandering eyes did appear? A colored TV brought in through the rear! This added much, from what I hear--to a more enjoyable and Happy New Year. The Fischers entertained friends from Wheaton (former neighbors of theirs in that locale) New Years Eve--and had a grand time together seeing ^the old year out and the new year in. New Years Day Marge's brother, Frank Broucek and family came out for dinner. They all enjoyed watching the parade (in color) and then the Rose Bowl game. loosely) and1 Wisohed^T^ same. PLEASE let us Keep our garbage in covered cans and only in reach of the disposal truck which picks it up on Thursday of every week at your driveway entrance. All Work and No Play, Jim: While Jim Leahy was working practically day and night during the holidays, to complete a job he was working on in Chicago, his wife, Marie, spent Christmas with her mor ther, sister and brothers. in Chicago. Qime New Ye'ars and Jim decided to let down-- at which time he and Marie spent a most enjoyable evening at Moose Lodge in McHenry with friends, Mr. and Mrs. A1 May and Mr. and Mrs. Bergman,, from the Village of Sunnyside. Happy Anniversary Greetings to Dorothy and Ted Bierchen who will have been married 23 years on the 10th, and to Vi and Ed Rodiek on the 11th, who will be celebrating their first year together. Many happy returns of the day to both couples. Anybody for RATS? If you desire rats, or other vermin, in your house, garage and/or yard, the quickest way to acquire these thriving little pests is' dumping garbage in the vacant lot next to you--or leaving garbage containers un- 6dVered. Reports have come to our attention that garbage is being dumped in vacant lots in our subdivision. This is not only -a. Back To 1964: Let us 'go back to Nov. 23, 1964. On this day\Helge Dettlow reached the ripe young age of 65. This is not so unusual-- but the fact that he was asked not'to retire by the company he has worked with fo^ 17 years is in itself a bit unusual. To show their gratitude for his splendid service record they not only gave him the first birthday party that had even been given an employee in the company -- but three gifts consisting of a drill, nail cabinet and five dollars. It has been my pleasure to work with Fran on a few occasions and through the medium of reporting for her at various times I have acquainted myself more and more with our neighbors.
