Complaints were lodged with the village board about children ik>t exercising caution during the extreme hazardous weather which we are still enduring. One resident was alarmed that we may have, serious injuries caused (or worse), if parents don't properly warn their youngsters. The especially bad intersection is at Gate 4 and West Parkview which handles a great deal of motorist traffic and all bus loadings. The gentleman who voiced his protests also suffered brokeri windows in his home because of the kids playing too roughly. Many children report to the bus loading areas long before the buses are due. The high school bus is the first to leave and depart^,, Gate 6 at 7:25 a.m. and then circulates the Village. There should be no children at Gate 4 until this time! The rest of the buses follow at about 10 minute intervals until 8:30 a.m. or shortly after. Lunch boxes and books placed in the middle of the streets have also caused obstruction for motorists, and the kids should be discouraged from following this practice. The village board has acted to accord our children the safest routes and places for boarding busses, but co-operation from parents is mandatory if the system is to work. They removed the hazard of boarding buses along the blacktop which was a great improvement. Now, moms and dads, the rest is up to you! Spring Road Project Set For Final Plans And Bids The rough draft for the improvement of Spring Road was approved by the president and trustees at the last meeting of the board which met on Monday, Jan. 25. AH "on board" with the exception of trustee Bill Creutz. Commissioner of roads Art Stuhlfeier reported that inclement weather has played havoc with our roads, but according to the papers, we1 fare better than most. After last week's icing, the roads were sanded in record time. The intersection at Gate 6 and East Lane has deteriorated from the elements , and will be repaired as soon as conditions permit. Three complaints of zoning violations were reported by building commissioner Gene Shigley and discussed by the board. A time limit was set to rectify the violations. Accidents along the blacktop have multiplied by the weather conditions, but nothing serious, thank goodness, and we hope there will not be. Our police force, under the leadership of Chief Earl Murray, has given excellent service to motorists and we can be grateful for their, dedication to duty! The next meeting will be held Monday, Feb. 8, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse and the public is invited. Local Couple Returns With An Addition Julie and Ed Mass added their names to our village roster just before the holidays. There were four of them when they left our shores and 5 when they returned. L'il John was born Oct. 25 in St. Francis hospital, Litchfield, 111., and weighed 8 lbs., 2 oz. at that time. Litchfield is located half way between Springfield and St. Louis, Mo. Ed was working on a project there in connection with his civil engineering experience. The other Mass lads are Mark -- 2Vs and Andy -- almost 16 months. May we offer the family a hearty welcome back and be happy .to have them until Ed's work takes him elsewhere. Hospital Trip For Accident Victim The extremely hazardous weather a week ago Friday sent Miss Sandy Lock to McHenry hospital for 48 hours. As she proceeded to her place of employment along Martin Road, she lost control of her car and careened into a culvert, suffering a broken nose. Considerable damage was done to her' car and a new frame required. Sandy is mending nicely if somewhat uncomfortably, and she will be at home for several more weeks. Anticipation Party Sally and Papa Olsen were in Chicago last week to attend a party in anticipation of Sally's third great-grandchild. The shower honored Mrs. Bud (Susan) Cavender and the entire family turned out for the event. The Olsens stayed at the home of Gert and Charley Temple. Report From Former Residents We received a very informative letter from Tommy and John Fox and daughters. Alberta and Robbie are enthused with their surroundings, school, and chums. The Fox family spent two weeks in Durango, Colo., visiting John's brother. Tommy who was an officer in the Ladies of the Lake asked to be remembered to the gals. What A Time To Leave! As we shoveled ourselves out of the last five inches of snow and braced ourselves for an onslaught of more sub-zero weather Monday morning, Jean and Hugh McDonald were packing the oar for a trip to Florida. They were scheduled to leave about noon, accompanied by Theresa Cunningham and Mary Nihill of McHenry. During their absence, the "store" is being well tended by May and Butch Kennenberg and Ed Caron. We'll be waiting for correspondence from them and read it with green eyes! Party "Hosted" By Four It was a delightful gathering at the Herman Mass home last Saturday night. The local couple combined with Carole and Bill Jensen of Long Grove to provide the ultimate in fine entertaining. Each couple invited six more and it was a good group. Some of the guests included Julie and Ed Mass, Anita and Dan McMahon, Jake and myself locally, and Elda and Harry Ecklund of McHenry. There were others from the Crystal Lake area and Long Grove. Following a scrumptious repast" of ravioli, Italian salad, casserole dishes and other goodies, we were entertained by a talented young folk singer. All women of the church are urged to attend and bring a friend along. A. woman from India will be the guest speaker for the evening who will appear in her native costume and speak on "Women in New Nations." She is a very interesting lady to listen to. She is in the United States for a, period of a year to get training in medicine before returning to her native India. She is getting her training at the McHenry hospial. Mrs. Mary Butler is in charge of the program. Kate Cristopher and Mertie Harrison will be in charge of the coffee hour. Try to make it a point to attend this meeting to hear this unusual and talented lady. Also, bring along a friend or two. Attend Shower Mrs. Bob Brennan of our town, Mrs. James Wegener of McHenry and Mrs. Louis Winn of Richmond attended a pink and blue shower in honor of Mrs. Jerry Strackbein (the former Peggy Ann Leonard) of Lake Geneva. Mrs. Maxine Lawrence of Elkhorn was the hostess far the shower held in her home on Sunday afternoon.
